Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Parts for coaster brake hubs

Hi, I'm wondering if all coaster brake hubs are the same. I need a rebuild kit for a Weinmann 26 1.5/1.75 coaster brake wheel. I've seen a few around, mostly Shimano. I'm wondering if they will work for me.

How experienced are you in bike maintainence/repair? I ask because a coaster brake up is probably the most complicated things in all of bicycle-dom. There are probably about as many parts inside it as there are on the rest of your bike put together. Is there a reason you want to keep the coaster brake and not just to go modern calipers?

If that's true, then I must be a genius, because I rebuilt one without a manual and had no problems.

AEbike had the only parts I could find on the web. I didn't buy any.

I've never replaced a coaster brake hub, but it doesn't seem that complex. It's a series of bearings and sprockets wrapped around an axel. The reason I don't want to use a caliper brake is because the bike wasn't designed for one.

I commute to work on an old single speed bike that I don't want to worry about getting ripped off and spending a lot of money for. I could probably get the thing rebuilt at a bike shop for around $40, but I can get a rebuild kit or even just the bearings for a lot less. The entire bike only cost around $80 and I could still replace the thing for around that much buying on the Internet shipping included.

I might consider putting a caliper on, but only for safety reasons. I'm a bit paranoid about the thing failing and having no way to stop. I still prefer coaster bakes because of the ease of use.

Does anybody know about different hub rebuild kits? I think I'm inclined just to buy a second bike just to keep around for spare parts.

The hub I disassembled was on a Schwinn, and may not be like others, but it had 4 "shoes", a worm-gear driven "driver", bearings, axle...and that's it. If you get the parts, the rebuild is easy.

A single speed coaster brake hub is not very complicated. A multispeed coaster brake hub is more complicated.

Seems like we're talking about two types, which do you mean?
