Finally, a pizza thread!

My favorite pizza is a basic all meat pie....

At my local pub, they have an Irish pizza. It took me a while to try it out. It has Sliced Potato, Breakfast Bacon, Spinach, Mozza, and Pesto Sauce. Add a bunch of parmesan, and its amazing! Danngit, im getting real hungry now...

edit: Mushrooms and Pineapple do not belong on a pizza. The pizza gods get angry when that happens...

I was just at a meeting at the Town and Country Resort in San Diego, California a couple of weeks ago. We splurged on room service and got the big pizza and 4 beer special (at a very reasonable price for room service, I might add!). We ordered sausage and pepperoni and it came quickly (we were right around the corner from the on-site restaurant where they make it) and piping hot, so hot we had to let it cool to eat. My husband is a pizza fanatic and would eat it 7 days a week if he could, so we average pizza pretty frequently. The room service pizza was one of the best I have had in years. Good sausage and pepperoni, the crust was tasty, a good balance of cheese to sauce, and the cheese! The cheese!--it tasted like they used whole-milk mozzarella on it, it was so creamy and rich and good. D**n that was good pizza. . . I wish we could get it up here

My favorite is a plain old extra cheese. I get my fix from Between Us Deli in my hometown, and Athens Pizza in Waltham, MA.

When I worked in a pizza delivery shop, we would make all kinds of bizarre pies when business was slow (which was often). One of my favorites at the time was a breakfast pizza--sauce replaced with scrambled eggs, topped with cheddar cheese, ham, sausage, and bacon.

Are you freaking kidding me? mushrooms naturally work great on a pizza. I can't even believe you would say such a thing!! Whereas I totally agree that pineapple should never be put on a pizza.

Funny, I love mushrooms on pizza, but hate pineapple.

Heres the weird thing. I always hated mushrooms and I never used to get them on my pizza. I would pick them off. At viva italiano, they have a very mild flavor. They don't taste like dirt, or very earthy like most mushrooms. So I guess I would say only at viva do I get mushrooms.

Same thing with green peppers, I hate them on frozen supreme pizzas from safeway, and I hate them on all the other pizza places supreme pizzas I've tried. At viva though, they are amazing. Slighty sweet, not overcooked so they have some crunch. Not mushy, mhhhhhm perfect.

I like zebra with extra cheese, but it's dangerous to try to get one by yourself. Pepperoni will do in a pinch, pepperonis can't kick worth a darn.

And NO mushrooms, I do NOT want fungi on my pizza!

Oh, and thank you VERY much for kickstarting my pizza cravings :p

Pizza YUCK!

(Yes I deliver them for this little pizza company, maybe you have heard of them... PIZZA HUT)

Actually when I want a really good pizza - chicken (grilled), mushroom, onion, bell pepper and extra cheese...

Or just lots of pepperoni... and no anchovies... but cheese in the crust is nice!

oh, my goodness! I had the BEST pizza Friday night! I was at this fru-fru place in town and they had fru-fru pizza (I was a bit skeptical): flank steak, spinach, mozzarella on this thin, crispy crust.....and it was sooo tasty (I was pleasantly suprised)! Even the die-hard New Yorker with us was impressed.

I usually make my own pizza using one of those premade crusts. I found the ones from pizza places to be far too greasy. My favorite toppings are canadian bacon(Yves veggie), mushrooms, bell pepper, onion with pineapple. I can't imagine eating a pizza without pineapple.

My brother used to make the best pizzas - we'd hit his house for pizzas then go to the $2 movies a couple blocks away. It was pretty awesome. He made this sushi pizza one time with sprouts and tuna and wasabi...

I think I need to stop at Pizza Luce for a slice on the way into work today...

Don't know what you've got against pizza, but making your own crust is definitely the way to go. I do a whole wheat crust with spinach, garlic, and roasted tomatoes. Awesome stuff. There's also a place on Washington called Candelari's that does great Italian sausage pizzas.

T-Birds Pizza, on N Santa Cruz Av in Los Gatos is the best.

If you are a meat lover its the Tequila, if you are vegetarian try the Peppermint twist
I really like the LaBomba with its refried beans, cheese, red onions, chorizo, ground beef, sour cream, black olives and jalapenos.

I was always really hesitant to try pineapple on a pizza but once I did, man, that was the tipping point. Every pizza I have now has to have pineapple on it. I've gotten so many people to go from "Eww, Gross!" to "Holy S***, that really good!" To all the pineapple haters, have you actually tried it? It is suprisingly good (imo and many others too).

I go for vegetarian pizza. Its got so much taste in it with all the variety. Meat pizza is very good tasting but has such a nasty grease feel to it. Extra cheese, thick soft crust, and lots of tomato sauce is unbeatable.

Greasy ? I always thought the cheese carried at least a 25-75% responsibility for the greesiness, regardless of good it tastes.

Uno's Numero Uno (http://www.unos.com/newmenu/pizza.html)

or

Filippi's Pizza Grotto (http://www.realcheesepizza.com/web/home/index.html)

But, of the chains, there's just something about Pizza Hut that hits that elusive spot every time.

For my money, and it was often my money, Track Town in Eugene had the best pies around. My personal fave was sausage, pesto, spinach and feta with a spicy marinara sauce. There was a coupon book that came out twice a year with a 2-for-1 special. We got so well known at Track Town that after a while it didn't matter if we had the coupon or not. Some nights we wouldn't order two and they'de get concerned, wondering if we were feeling ok.

Another good one is the Garbage Pizza I used to get at The Skylight in my hometown. They'de just throw on whatever they had lying around. What can I say, I'm adventerous with my food.

Plain cheese, I like it well balanced between sauce and cheese - a lot of crappy pizza has way too much cheese on it. I add oregano flakes, red chili flakes and grated parmesian. The crust should be thin and well done, not thick, doughy or undercooked. Good red chili flakes are heavy on the red chili and light on the seeds. In Portland, Escape From New York, Pizzacato and Hot Lips are the best, IMO. I don't like meat or hippie veggie pizza. Mushrooms, garlic, olives and jalepenos are acceptable toppings if someone insists on loading it up. I learned to eat pizza in NYC, where real pizza comes from. When I was a kid, a bowling party and pizza was de riguer for birthdays; pizza and beer was always good for the munchies in high school...and real pizza eaters never use a fork or other utensils - fold the slice and hold it in yer hand, for christ's sake!

There's this little place along the railroad tracks in Roebling, NJ (I forget the name of the place) makes a killer 'za! Hot sausage, ricotta cheese & garlic... mmmmmm, scrumptious.

A road trip destination, for when I'm feeling better.

Well.... I'm usually pretty humble, but I make my own hand rolled, baked on a stone pizza at home (white or red) and it is better than just about and pizza I've ever bought. I like Mystic Pizza (like the one in the Julia Roberts movie) and yes...it really exists. As far as toppping, I like white pizzas as much as red, so whatever. I don't like anchovies though.

Don't get me wrong...California has crap pizza as well (California Pizza Kitchen? Utter crap.) The two I listed are at least Chicago deep dish (Never been to Chicago, so I can't vouch for authenticity) and really good Italian style, brick oven, foldable, floppy, and delicious. I'm not one for foo-foo Feta and Greek Olive with Salmon and pesto with an olive oil drizzle. Gimme a break. Agreed that California has bastardized the Pizza industry with it's Wolfgang Puck-ery...but Oregon and Pizza go together like Delaware and Hot Women.

I'm allergic to pork so usually get greek veggie pizza with feta cheese. My 4 year old is crazy about anchovies so even if we get frozen pizza, we have to get a tin of anchovies. She'll eat half of them just out of the tin and rest on the pizza. My stomach turns to even think about it. Uggggggg

Curses! Should have known better than to look at this thread...
The one thing I really can't get where I live is good pizza. There are a bunch of mediocre pizza places near where I live, but for the better stuff you have to go downtown - they don't deliver to my area. And even they are just OK, nothing great.

That brings me to a question: what do people think about corn on pizza? It's a popular thing in Asia. It weirded me out when I first saw it, but now I kinda like it.

Well, I should say that I like it as long as the pizza isn't also topped with Thousand Island Dressing -- another curiously Asian fixation.
