So... do people actually buy those... things because they think they look good in the front yard, or do they buy them as some kind of kitsch joke?

Lawn Gnomes rearranged them in the middle of the night as revenge for hooligans kidnapping them.

Stupid gnomes. They're just spreading the hate to the flamingos who will then spread it to the colored globes and so on and so forth. When will the chain of hatred be undone?

The question is, are those who like them, aliens or people. Or maybe aliens or lawn gnomes plant them in people's yards and the people are too embarrassed to call somebody and have them be removed. So they just let them stay there and hope nobody notices them.

For those of you not conversant in folk yard art, this is what is known as a Bathtub Mary.

Around the corner in my neighborhood a yard had a family of flamingos. The "daddy" flamingo even had a shirt collar and tie on. Every month or so they'd get moved to another part of the yard.

I like to see the yards with the concrete deer, pigs, goats, ducks, etc. all over the place.

I've threatened to buy a concrete pig for the yard. It would be so cool but "She who must be obeyed" hath decreed nay.

"She who must be obeyed".

I have to remember that one. "Cruise Director" is getting overused.

Ah yes the Bathtub Mary and that particular fine speciman is from my home town of Troy NY. There is a another one near there that has a halo made from christmas lights.

Once I had the idea of making and selling Bath tub Mary bath tub mats so catholic apartment dwellers could have both a shrine and a bath.

Although many folks assume that "she who must be obeyed" originated with Rumpole of the Bailey, it is actually from the novel "She" by H. Rider Haggard.
The acronym "SWMBO" is most often used.

Yes, I have bought them and I like them because they look good AND are a kitsch joke. What cold be better?

When I was in what I like to call "dress rehersal for college", a roommate and I decorated our dorm with pink flamingos and lawn gnomes (borrowed of course from neighborhood houses), which got us into rather large trouble: I (because I always get into trouble) ended up getting kicked out (long story, stupid me), my friend got to stay and finish the semester. ahhh...those were the days! I still get teased about those darn pink flamingos, many many years later!!!
