View Full Version : Achy Joints
I've got these wrists that I've broken a number of times and of late I can't get my left one to stop aching. It makes riding a tad more uncomfortable.
What do people use to stop their aches?
I sprinded my right wrist at the beginning of Thanksgiving..:( I've been taking 4 advil every 5-6hrs, only when the pain is affecting one of my activties. In fact, my whole body aches, so I just took 4 more... I think my son has awarded me with another bug too. :(

Make sure my hand position is perfect when riding. I also ice my wrists after every ride pain or no pain. I also wrap them when I sleep, I only do this when the pain is chronic.
Greg,
Given the repeated injury to the wrists is there any
possibility of Arthritis?
Given your history of riding I don't think its a question
of setup/bar position. Did you get the Swift saddle?
I did note that my Brooks tended to pitch me forward
a bit when saddle was level, I ride with a slight
(1 - 2 mm) nose up position.
If it doesn't improve, I'd say see a doc.
Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

Lotek has a point, it could be a type of arthritis, caused by repeated injury. Try maybe wearing one of those braces when you aren't riding, that could help. If it feels swollen, if it's very stiff in the morning, that could be a sign of arthritis. Also, it runs in families (like mine!).
Try taking a chondroitin and/or glucosamine supplement. It can help joint and cartilage heal.
Hey!, all I want is for someone to recommend a good cream to take the pain away, not all this other advice. OK! ;)
Arthritis does run in the family even without the injuries I've sustained (eight broken bones over the years). It's just a matter of time, I guess. More reason to ride now.
lotek, I've got about 500 miles on the new Swift ti and my ***** has never been happier. An absolutely awsome, beautiful seat and the Swift isn't too shabby either :D. I tilted it up a few mils last night and I'll see how that helps. Thanks.
The ache seems like recent trama as I've been jumping back and forth from my road bike to a flat barred mtb/hybrid that I pull my son's pedal trailer on. The flat bars just kill my wrists. I'm looking into buying some more relaxed bars for the bike and that should kill the cause, I hope.
I've been using this grandma lotion, Aspercream, to deaden the pain a bit with mild results and noticed there are quite a few others on the shelf. I hear the sappy commercials on the radio for the Joint Ritis. Anyone tried it?
Greg,
Ok, I didn't get the just wanting some pain relief part.
I'd suggest Arnica Montana cream, it does wonders for
muscles, etc. Better than aspercreme IMHO. You should
be able to find it in any store that carries Homeopathic
stuff (and alot of groceries and pharmacies).
I just readjusted up a mm or so after I noted a bit
of pressure in perinium, I'm told its not uncommon to need
to do so after fully breaking in saddle.
My next Brooks is either gonna be a Team Pro (large rivets)
or swift, still can't deceide.
