After realizing the limitations of my 01 Rockhopper it was time to upgrade. I didn't have a big budget so I resigned myself to a used bike. I've been eying up the VT's for several months and now have finally picked one up. I am totally stoked and for a used bike it only has some cable rub.

That is awesome, hope you enjoy it! I've considered building one of those up for myself. Still may do it one day. Make sure you post a ride report after you have spent some time on it.

Put some clear packing tape where the cable rubs. You can also buy some carbon fiber patches or a rubber sleeve for the cable housing to eliminate paint rubbing.

nice bike 2wheeled. How much travel does it have in the rear?

Do you like those cane creek bar ends? i love mine..

Oh, did you notice the rubber cover is off the barrel adjuster on the rear derailleur... be careful putting it back on though, those rubber covers rip super easilly, ive ripped mine on both my xt derailleurs..

The rear is adjustable 5" and 5.7".

I was planning on buying bar ends so when I saw the cane creeks I was stoked. They feel great.

Yeah I did notice the rubber cover, I was just going to leave it, but I'll gently pull it back in place.

I always thought it was easier to just cut them off. ;) They don't really do much of anything anyway.

Wow, that's nice man!

I was going to build one of those, but I could never find one that was reasonable. I don't live in California and Wheelworld usually has blowout prices on nice bikes, but you have to visit their storefront to get 'em. They were selling those VT's for $299. MAN I wanted one! I ended up with a Jamis Dakar XLT with 5" on both ends. I still win, but it sucks to see these online vendors advertise crap like that and say "Oh by the way, I can't sell it to you unless you buy a plane ticket from Kansas and fly over here to California and come in to my store." I know it's an agreement with the bike manufacturer's, but why advertise nationally in bike magazines when you have to be a local to get one?

Have fun with it! Used bikes are awsome, cuase sometimes before you get it, the guy before you has build it up, and you get it for cheaper.

Yeah I think I got a decent deal and the bar ends and pedals were added, everything else is stock. It's just nice having a bike that has 5" of plush travel. I've taken it out for a short ride and like how it performs. Really like the wind-down fork from 5" to 3" for climbing, really helps to keep that front end lower.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to doing a good xc ride shortly.

That's good, are the items he added on better than the stock parts were?

Well the bar ends are cane creek, blend in rather well with the handle bar grips and the pedals are the platform type. I'm used to being locked in with the eggbeaters but wanted to switch to platforms because of the more technical riding I'm doing so it was nice that I didn't have buy them. As much as I've looked at this bike though, I still don't know what brand they:D I'll have to check tomorrow.

Very nice. I've always seemed to like VT's, they look so good.
