I tried to buy a Guerciotti Force 52 frame today from an internet site that had them at 849 after I made my purchase the owner of the site told me he sold the last one right before I purchased it, but if i wanted he would sell me a Guerciotti Em 2 52 frame for just 50 dollars more, what a deal!!!! I am happier than a pig in slop, I just can't wait to put this frame together.
Can any body give me some pointers on putting together a great kit package for under 1,000 dollars.

Rivendell has:

Ultegra brake levers $30

Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/Campagnolo-Cantilever-Brakes_W0QQitemZ7241723968QQcategoryZ42331QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Mavic Kyserium Equipe $300
Compact Crank 100 (or triple about the same)
Thompson seatpost 35
Barend Shifters 50
Cantilever brakes 25

sub $510

Anywhere:

FSA Platinum ISIS BB $60 (Or Octalink for Shimano type)
Salsa CX Handlebars 30
Front Derailleur compact 50 (or triple)
Rear Derailleur Ult longarm 100
Stem 40
Saddle 50
Cables 50
Tape 15
Tires 50
Tubes 10
Chain 20
Casette 12/27 60
Headset 75

$1130

There are still a few small parts that might be necessary or not depending on what comes with the frame and fork. For instance, a front brake guide that mounts on the fork stem. Stem spacers and the like. Maybe you'll need the straddle cables for the cantilevers depending on what sort of deal you get on Ebay or whereever.

As you can see, it's a long shot to put it together for $1K. There are a few parts you'll probably splurge on or can't get and will have to pay through the nose.

That's the way it works so don't worry about it.

id buy all the parts separate. and most slightly used.

Wheels: Go Open Pro or CXP 21 with 105 or ultegra hubs. I bought a pair of open pros on ebay a few months ago for $60 for the pair.

Saddle: i like the flite tt

Shifters: Are you going to go STI or bar end?

pedals: either candys, Eggbeaters or ATAC

Cranks: FSA ISIS or Ultegra octalink 48/38 or 46/38 gearing or single ring on the front

brakes: you can get away with Avid Shorty canti's I've set them up to work just fine before. you just have to know what youre doing.

headset: FSA Orbit SL? was a pretty good headset

check out my website plus one lap for pictures of some cool cyclocross bikes and you can see how other people have set their bikes up.

post some pics too of the new frame.

I did'nt want to spam with advertising that was not my goal so I will show you three places that carry Guerciotti frames.

http://www.bikyle.com/
http://www.spokeandsprocket.com/
I have yet to learn how to post pictures, and I wouldn't give advertisement to any of these places, I am just stoked by the bike I bought, even though I read the title of my thread and it does sound like a damn advertisement.

I built up a steel Guerciotti CX for a friend late last year and he loved it.

I have a Pinarello CX and I like it very much. It's an absolute joy to ride.

By the way, I put a set of 28 mm Cx tires (Tigrecross I think) on it and they ride VERY nicely everywhere except on very loose ground such as mud or very slick surfaces.

By the way - I suggested the Ksyrium Equipes for a reason and advise you to buy them unless you are getting some really cheap wheels. It would cost you more than the cost of the Mavics to build a good set of wheels that you could rely on as you can the Mavics.

Any cantilever brake would work but the fact is that I've had the best luck with Avid shotries. They sometimes squeal but they bolt right up and they don't feel spongy.

Yea don't worry about it. It does sound spamish but if you were spaming it wouldn't be in the small close knit cyclocross forum :)

I met a guy two weeks ago that bought a mid 70's Guerciotti at a yard sale for $25. It was a beautiful bike to say the least. Thats what cought my eye to this thread...
