Classic & Vintage - Suntour vs shimano rear mech cable pull?

I'm trying to install suntour command shifters (index only) on my mothers old Schwinn columbus steel touring bike. She likes the downtubes less and less as she gets older.

Its more difficult than I thought to find an indexing suntour rear derailler for the project that I'm working on. Anybody know how different the cable pull is on shimano vs suntour rear deraillers? Are accushift mtb deraillers different from accushift road deraillers? Do all shimano deraillers (old and new) have the same cable pull? Which shimano deraillers (vintage and discipline) have cable pull most similar to suntour deraillers?

Thanks!

assuming you are using a 6 speed cassette, almost any modern derailleur will work (jeers come out of the woodwork here). I would recommend a cheap but good derailleur such as a shimano RX100 or later suntour cyclone 7000 etc. Just get a newish (non-dura ace, non-weird brand) one off evil bay for 20 or so dollars and it should set up fine. Of course an newer 9-speed ultrgra would cover it nicely as well as mothers are always worth it. I am currently running a ultrgra 6500 or so on my old austro daimler with 6 speed (friction) and it works great!
