Folding Bikes - I've never seen so many Bromptons...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I guess because I happen to be on holiday in Central London...:D
I haven't seen so many Bromptons in all my life...even the cool new S-Types. Second in numbers are Dahons and re-badged Dahon-clones. Third are what appear to be a modern incarnation of the Raleigh Twenty. I also caught glimpse of a Strida or two.
Definitely a much larger folder presence here in London compared to San Francisco.

Hi James - Welcome to London - yes folders really are part of the transport solution here, (along with the other 90% of fullsized bikes). While you are here I suggest you get hold of the free 'london cycle guide' route map ... available at tube stations and bike shops .... there is a pretty good network of routes, many out of traffic. Some of my favourite routes are along the river and along canals. .... I am assuming you've brought your folder ;-) enjoy your holiday ..... Si

See any Swifts (other than in the mirror)?

Anybody know how much a Swift goes for in London?

I lived in London until February.. As far as I could find out (and I really wanted to know!) I couldn't find any dealers for Swift in England. Swift just got a dealer in Holland, and when I talked to them they were interested in finding a distributor in England.

Sadly, I wasn't able to bring my Swift. I didn't have a luggage case large enough at the time. Between the wife, myself and my kid, there wasn't much room in what luggage we did have for anything else. So instead, I've been doing the tourist thing by foot, bus, and underground. :(
I haven't seen any Swifts out here. Just a lot of mountain bikes and single speed/fixed road bikes, which seem perfect for the relatively flat terrain here.

I should think London has the highest density of Brommies in the world. There was a time when people acknowledged other Brompton users, but given the current numbers, this might prove rather difficult – you would either get hoarse or look like a mad-man doing semaphore all the time.

AVC, Bath had a demo model in a while back. I don't know if they are distributing them in the UK though. I have never seen a Swift in London, but if I did, I would ask for a ride!

The only place that I've seen a Swift for sale, in the UK, is Avon Valley Cyclery in Bath, try checking out their price.
Got soaked in Verviers, Belgium (Strida)
In a very stormy Poland, Got soaked in Germany (GoBike)
Got soaked in Bydgoszcz, Poland (Strida)
Got another soaking in Warsaw, Poland! (GoBike)
Summer's coming, so's Xmas!

Apparently AVC also have a 'Souped-up' Swift out back (I only found out about it after I had left!)

Just phoned AVC, Bath. They are selling the Swift for £595, but they only have one available at present. I am tempted - if only they folded more compactly...

They're quite nice those Mezzos. Welcome to london! Seems to me there are more and more bikes here these days. Can only be a good thing. There's even a pilot scheme just been built near where I live at Finsbury Park Station that is a proper secure and staffed bike park; I really hope it works and catches on - a network of secure parking could only help encourage city cycling...

Hi there, any idea who the Holland dealer was, or would you have a web link handy? Cheers!
