the shimano line is wider than usual. i tried all the popular ones before i found the shimano line to be the widest of the shoes line (road)

Sidi makes a Maga (wide version) of their shoes, but I doubt they sell a model under $100.00. I've had luck with Specialized shoes. If you've got a very big shoe (like size 48), check out their website for clearance prices on last year's shoes!

Specialised MTB comp may be outwith the price but have plenty of toe room.

:) Bike Nasbar has a sale on Diadora. I use SPD's and use the Piccante I like the 3 velcro straps. The shoe has good room in the toe area :D :D

Lake shoes, (Handled by Nashbar or Performance, I forget which) can be had in wider widths, at less than a 'C' note. My road shoes are Sidi 4's in Mega and luv'em! ;)

My suggestion is to bite the bullet and spend the extra bucks for Carnacs if you need a wide toe box and want some shoes you know are going to be comfortable for a long ride. However, you will be lucky to do better than $200.00 for a pair of Carnac shoes. I did not like the Sidi Mega shoes. I have heard good things about Shimano and Northwave shoes.

The only reason i say wider is because i have heard the bike shoes,at least some brands, are small up front and tend to cram your toes.I would rather try on before i buy to make sure.I like some of he shimanos.
