I keep wanting one of those, but the more I think about it, the more I realize it's a middle-of-the-road product, not suited for my useage at all.
My thing is I either can make do with a standard rack, a board with some bolts, and a few bungies....or to buy a child trailer, and modify it into a folding cargo trailer....I would go for the folding cargo traile myself....that could at least transport a table and some.
Problem is the xtracycle is too permanent for me....having to swap chains and all that between uses is a pain.
If it fits your lifestyle, awesome! just think about what you wnat before you mak an expensive dive.
edit: by the way, your bike is totally sweet.

I agree, I think it's something you would want to put on a bike that is going to stay "the hauler" :)

Agreed about it being a permanent add on. I've just bought one (still waiting on it to arrive) and I'm also shopping for a daily commuter. I found we were using my bike for all the serious hauling and it got a bit old to always have to be finding inventive ways of laying out things in the panniers. We make 2 major trips to get stuff: grocery shopping and the farmer's market. Both are pre-planned and both are perfect places for an xtracycle so we're adding the xtracycle onto the one bike we can both ride comfortably (just move the seat up and down) and I think we'll end up okay. Had to buy a new rear wheel though to make sure it could handle the load.
I'll post my pictures once I get it and get it attached.
Your bike not only looks sweet with the xtracycle...it's so clean! I'm such a slob. :o
But tell me, is it scary to have your chain so long on the bike? It looks like it would break or something. Where do you get the long chain? Or is it just a regular chain that you don't cut down?
^He snuck up on a recumbent rider at a stop light, beat the crap out of them, then took their chain. You should have seen the look on his face, when I told him that he could have just hooked two chains together - priceless.
I see a taller stem / swept-back handlebars in your future...congratulations, you're a draft animal now. :)
To catatonic: the xtracycle is pretty much a one-way ticket; it's my only bike and I love it but it would be a serious pain to swap back and forth and I simply don't do it. The chain is the easy part; re-routing those cables again would give me a headache. As for your board and bungees, whatever hauls your load is a good thing...but please, don't use bungees near a wheel! Disaster lurks that way, use tension or cam straps instead.
The chain is in no danger of breaking. Xtracycle provides an extension length of chain which I've been riding around on with no problems; I have two (same brand) new chains I intend to build into a single new chain soon, to be on the safe side, but I don't think this is necessary if your 'old' chain is new enough, which mine wasn't.
Getting a new rear wheel to handle the load is a good idea; I taco'ed my stock wheel by trying to do something frankly silly involving two adult passengers, and I feel more confident on my 36 spoke SunRhyno with DT triple-butts, if a little wary of trying to repeat that stunt.
