I have an ole schwinn varsity 10 speed I went for a ride and had to get going FAST so I started and the chain popped off from me shifting too fast but when it popped off it went between the gear and the outside cover thing for the gears to stop em from getting your pants. jammed itself in and I couldnt free it till I got home. Well only way I could get it out was to pull front derailure off and I got it back together and I cant shift to my other 5 gears. I can set it to either my top 5 gears or bottom 5 gears but not all 10 so I ask you to please help me.

Well, I will get it started by attempting to clarify your question.
The Schwinn 10 speed is 2 chainrings up front and 5 cogs in back.
You removed and replaced the front derailleur.
Here is the question, when you say you can shift to the top 5 gears or the bottom 5 gears, are you saying that you can shift all the cogs in the back (right lever) but cannot shift the front at all (left lever)? If that is the case, you may just need to adjust the cable. There are lots of references for that, here are a couple, the second one I think is better explained for a beginner.

Yes you are very correct. Im sorry for my ill attempt at explaining the problem I am having. I also just read that article and I still am quite confused. The drivetrain is the only part I have much trouble with at all. Part that I believe bothers me the most is Im fixing my 57 chevy 3200 up and it seems simple compared to these bicycles.

I suggest you go to the second link I provided
and scroll down until Front Derailer Adjustment
I cannot explain the procedure anywhere near as well as it is explained here. If you have a specific question, there are many here that would be glad to help but to start, it is best you rely on the above link.

Im sorry for the misunderstanding but the sheldon one IS the one I looked at. The other one I looked at and It seemed quite a bit less complex compared to sheldon. It also made me realize what I have gotten myself into.

Maybe you are right, the 1st one can be better.
Be brave buckaroo, it isn't that bad if you just take your time and follow the instructions. And, don't be embarrassed, we have all been there.
So, how far did you get?

I am going to work on it this morning as it was getting late last night. I believe hardest part for me will be those screws with springs on em if I have to pull em out again. (The cable thing right there had some wires sticking out of it and I kept getting stabbed by it).
