Your **** out of luck then.
Just rotofix it and just wrap a bandana around the BB shell to prevent scratching.

do you have wood blocks and a vice?

na975

fresh outta wood + vice, I live in an apartment, no room for vice much less furniture. o, by the way i bought my soma frame from bike station, he gave me a great price too.

There is definitely enough room in your apartment to wrap a bandana, towel, old t-shirt, etc. around your bb and rotofix that cog off.

Seriously.
Just this morning I swapped out cogs from two different wheelsets in minutes and without any damage.

You wont man...just be gentle with her and use a lot of protection.

Out of curiosity, about what kind of frame are we talking?

maybe you should go to your lbs and get a whip, i mean you're putting alot of time into this when you could have gotten a whip from your lbs already :s

I let hyperRevue do it to my virgin frame and it didn't hurt (it) a bit. Don't be afraid to use a little muscle. Or buy a chain whip, OR take it to a shop.

ro - to - facking -fix already!!!!

you don't have to buy anything, you won't scratch your frame, and you'll learn something new.
you'll improve yourself!

To paraphrase from a friend's tutorial on how to change your guitar's strings:

1. Take your key ring out of your pocket or purse.
2. Rest your guitar on your lap, face up.
3. Drop keys from a distance of at least 18" onto face of guitar.
4. Now that you no longer have to worry about the finish on your new guitar, begin by removing the string fastening peg.

+ eleventy bajillion.

You will not hurt your frame. You will not hurt yourself. The only thing hurt will be your pride once you realize how stupid you were for not doing it earlier.

i've converted a couple of 3/32 whips to 1/8. i usually can't get my chain tool into all the nooks of the whip, so i end up pushing a pin all the way out, then tapping it in with a hammer or something.

If you've got a pair of vice-grip pliers and a 6" length of old chain around - instant chain whip. Just lock the pliers down on one end of the chain so that the free end sticks straight out from the front. Works for me.

na975

yeah i to get some 1/8" chain, then if dunt work , its rotafix for sure!

hold the wheel between your legs and tap the cog teeth with a cold chisel and lump hammer. if the cog shatters it will come off really easily.

Yes! Ive done it- You just need some track chain and a chain tool. I left the original couple of links nearest the handle. The side pieces of the chain link can stretch wide enough to fit onto the track chain. Make sure at that connection you use one of the wider pins.

Ah, that's how you do it.
When I tried converting my 3/32 whip to 1/8, I was tryin gto actually pop the pin out of the handle and install a whole new chain.
Your way seems to make more sense.
