Foo - *sigh* Mountain Dew is crack

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
But I can't get enough of it! I love Mountain Dew- I just can't figure out how to break the addiction! Heeeeeeeeelp!
P.S. Don't tell me it has too many calories. I ride rolling hills to work every day for over an hour each way, and I teach 14 aerobics classes a week.

I know what you mean. The cure is- when your broke you can't buy it!!

Wow.....thats a lot of calories !! :p
Really though.....that and Coke are like raw Krystal Meth !
I can drink 6 cups of black coffee a day and not feel jittery
or anything but one Coke or Mt. Dew and I cant even control my
hands !
I'l never be so broke that I can't buy a mountain dew... and even then, I'd find a way to get my hands on $1.25 for that 20 oz bottle! :D
Mountain Dew is the jam! I think I'll always be addicted to that stuff.

Go for the DEW !!! You can burn off the calories in 15-minutes of riding anyway. :) Anyone like the new Code Red?

Get a juice weasel and make your own homemade juice. Make enough to bottle and take w/ you. You'll save money and it'll be healthier for you.

My friend who drinks it all the time can have one right before bed and still go to sleep! Something about bikes and Mt. Dew I guess, he owns a bike shop. He can't quit, his friends bring him Dew at the shop.
If you have frozen lemonaide down there try adding a little Dew to the lemonaide on a hot day.
He tried to quit once, the doc said it may have contributed to his kidney stones I believe. He can't quit either. I'm afraid to even taste it.
Did you try to quit? Did you try a little less every two or three weeks?
At first I didn't like it, but somehow It really is addicting. Code red and original are great.
Code Red is da bomb when it's ice cold. But if it's not ice cold, then I don't really care for it.
I don't think I'm going to get kidney stones. I drink a lot of water, and I don't eat a lot of protein, thank goodness. I just have this thing for Mountain Dew. I wanted to quit, but I always go back to it. Always. I do have to go to the store tomorrow. What I should do is get lemonade and those 8 oz packs of Mountain Dew and just make lemonade for a while and add tiny bits of Mountain Dew and try to really wean myself off that crack.
Whitney said it best- CRACK IS WHACK! :D

I dunno why, but the meth addicts around here really dig it. You see guys walking around with effed up teeth (if any) walking around with a bottle of mountain dew.
I could never really drink it. It's like carbonated syrup.

New? I thought the stuff had been around for 6 years. Was it only recently introduced in Kali?
Koffee, its not calories, it the chemicals and things that will get you. Free radicals causing pre-mature aging are the price you pay, not getting fat.

My friend was dehydrated almost all the time. I don't think he even drinks water. And he eats too much protien too. I would have guessed you are doing the right thing. Good luck, I heard that it takes two weeks to make an adjustment to a lot less caffiene.
I'm going to get a hot coffee now..........

My granddaughter is ADHD. Her parents have her a Mountain Dew handy at all times.
I like Mountain Dew. I like Dr. Pepper even more. My doctor doesn't want me drinking either one. She is always telling me "Carbs are crack".

A good deterrent for the guys is that all the Yellow #5 in Mountain Dew causes shrinky-dinky.
I love mtd also! 3 times a week I go at lunch and get me a bottle and not those measly cans. Its funny like if you wait once it cools and thaws to regular temp. it taste 1000x better.
I switched to V-8(or at least the cheep generic version), with coffee chasers.

Tell your doctor she's on crack. Any doctor that dissuades their patients from eating carbs is definitely sniffing something... unless she specifically pointed out refined vs. natural and went into the nutrition. Uuuugh. :(

Mountain Dew is great, I used to drink it a lot at work where it was free (to us) :D
Now I don't have it as much, since I don't have any money most of the time and when I do get a drink, the machine I'm at doesn't usually have Mt. Dew :(

Soda machines in stores and restruants mix soda water with concentrated syrup. For a real fix just drink the syrup.
All this discussion of Mountain Dew is making me want one. (Or any similar drink will do, really, right now, if I can't conveniently get a Mountain Dew.)
Okay, offline I go, in search fo a Mountain Dew.
Dew sucks. Dr. Pepper is the carbonated beverage to drink.... when I drink one. Recently went from 10-12 cups o' joe a day down to 2 and started drinking water. No my body has a chance to flush the crap out. Feels good!
How about this?
Go take a look at the label and see that one of the ingredients of Mt Dew has Brominated Vegetable Oil.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brominated_vegetable_oil
Whenever I drink one now I think about sucking down a bottle of veggie oil. Bleh!

This thread has inspired me to fabricate a new User Title thing.
Check it out.
I'm drinking a mountain dew right now. I got into work, thought about the thread, locked up, and ran down the hall and found (joy of joys!) a soda machine that had mountain dews! So I ran back to my work, unlocked the door and let a member in, then locked her in and went back and got my mountain dew. Aaaaaaaaah! Mission accomplished! :)

I know Koffee, I so well know....
Mountain Dew is not the crack though, it is merely the gateway drink.
Many will move to Vault, for it's extra caffeine jolt, and then to AMP (the 16oz cans are freaking nuts!), and then to just getting a straight injections of AMP syrup right into a vein (ooh, yeah....play requiem for a dream eyeball sequence).
I guess I like Vault since I grew up as a mellow yello kid (hey the mello yello machine was 25c while the rest were 45..), then moved on to Dew.
I do not like Vault. They put Vault into the machines here without informing us. We called the Coca-Cola company and told them to take that **** up out of our machines, and in the future, don't remove the Coca-Cola with another product without our express written or verbal permission.

+1 When I do drink soft drinks, I drink Pepsi. Ever seen what Coca Cola does to bare aluminum? Scarey. Very Scarey!
Koffee if you really want to quit you should try deluting it with club soda. Drink half and half. My father was told to do this with Dr. Pepper cause he drank alot of pop and was becoming diabetic. No, it wasn't the pop that gave him this condition but the doctor warned him that he should lay off of it.
I don't care for any pop or soda the sugar is hard on my tummy.

I used to drink carbonated drinks a tad too heavily when i was a bit younger. For me however I break out really badly whenever i drink alot of sweetened or oily products. That combined with the fact that you're injecting pure carbon and syrup into your body, and the fact that my dad doesn't drink it and he looked like he was 20-30 when he was 40+ seems to have reduced my consumption. I was still drinking it a bit when I was in the Navy and a bit after I got out. It's an weak addiction i managed to get rid of and hope to stay way.

I was addicted to Mt. Dew when I was younger and I just can't bring myself to drink the stuff anymore. I'm not sure what I liked more...the caffeine or the carbonation. I drink coffee and tea now for the caffeine and I try to drink kombucha instead of that even. Kombucha is nice because it has some natural fizziness to it that is quite nice chilled on a hot summer day.
How to ween off of it? I dunno, I always seem to do things cold turkey. Try replacing it with something else? Iced latte? Fruit smoothie?

Only drink warm Mountain Dew thats been left opened on the counter for at least 24 hours. That may help break the habit.

Too bad the Dew available today in the can/bottle isn't nearly as good as the Dew you could get out of the old machines that mixed concentrate and carbonated water in the 70's/80's. *sigh*

Coca Cola put cocaine in their drink at the turn of the century. It sold extremely well. Some consumers succumbed to the addictive quality of cocaine and started to drink undiluted Cola syrup. When cocaine was banned for use in soft drink the bottlers switched to caffeine. The top selling soft drinks are loaded with caffeine: Coca Cola, 62 mg; Mountain Dew, 49 mg; and TAB, 45 mg. Similarly, instant coffee contains 66 mg per cup. http://www.freedomyou.com/addiction/caffeine%20addiction.htm
