Hey guys,

I'm just starting out in biking. For years I've been an avid weightlifer but have recently become bored. I'm looking for something to do thats more outdoorsy, something I can do with my wife from time to time...So i've decided to give biking a shot (wife cant play flag football).
I've decided to make my first bike purchase, on ebay theres a "Dawes lightning" for $199.
I've done a little research and I've seen theres a lot of better bikes to choose from but I dont want to spend too much money on this new found hobby yet, makes sense right?
I've gone to my LBS but everything is just ridiculously expensive, so ebay it is.

That should be a decent bike -IF it fits.

I did a little looking around and found the price you paid is reasonable for what you got. The three basic standards of almost anything mechanaical is you can get cheap, light, strong; any two not all three. The Dawes seems to be cheap and strong - it will not be light. But then you are a weight lifter so no problem. If you are still riding lots a few months from now I expect you will upgrade to a better bike. Nothing on a ~$200 bike is worth upgrading. I would get a better saddle though.
