Alright... I'm jumping headfirst into my first framebuild with a buddy with a couple years professional welding experience and equipment (just taught me how to braze today!), a complete set of tubes, lugs, etc. & the 3rd edition Paterek Manual.

We plan on building our own jig with plywood, clamps, shims, & whatever else we find under the sofa.

I guess I'd just like to hear about anyone's experience with a completely unprofessional 1st build, a DIY jig set-up, and a whole lot of bike passsion. I know I'm getting into a huge project with a high possibility of failure, but f*** it! I'm really excited!

...Thanks, framebuilders, for all the steel info, by the way! I know it doesn't make much difference before I can even build a frame, but I'm just absorbing all the info I can find right now.
