I am starting to research the purchase of a velomobile (enclosed trike for lack of a longer definition). These appear to be very rare here in the US, but are gaining ground in Europe.

With this in mind, I would like to know if anyone on this forum uses a trike or velomobile for commuting and would be willing to share their experiences. In particular, I would love to hear about use in a range of weather, including windy, extreme cold and snow.

Thanks.

TC,

You might check out Richard Ballentine's book 21st Century Bike Book, or something like that. I've read it and in there he talks a lot about trikes and discusses commuting that he did in London in a Windcheeth trike with fairing.

I remember seeing on another list (commuting?) a tricycle-owner praising the use of a tricycle in Winter. Little chance of a skid becoming a fall, he said.

I don't have any experience with a tricycle, but I have lots with the bicycle, as well as bicycle + trailercycle, bicycle + child trailer and bicycle + trailercycle + child trailer.

Basically, in snow, as soon as I add the child trailer behind the bike (or bike + trailercycle), there is a lot more resistance because I need to dig 3 tracks in the snow. By comparison, towing the trailercycle isn't harder than cycling by myself alone (all 3 wheels track in the same track).

Regards,
