Hi guys

I finally bled my rear XT disc brake. Its working without any leaks or whatsoever. I am into examinations for my studies now and i cant ride. So i spinned the rear wheel fast and applied the brake, it worked well but it didnt have the grab i hoped for.Is that due to braking in period? The brake is brand new out of the box and rotors and pads are untouched (clean). I bled it according to shimano instructions untill no bubbles were left in the reservoir (hopefully).
Also is there a way to tell if i bled it correctly? Does the XT lever has a lever reach adjuster? and if yes where it is? nothing is shown in the manual.

Thanks.

Yes, there is a wear in period until optimum performance is achieved. The best way to do this is to ride fast and apply the brakes repeatedly for a while. Don't go crazy with the front brake and flip over the bars. Or, just go for a ride.

To adjust the reach on hydraulic is to bleed fluid out. The more you bleed out, the closer the engagement point. If you remove too much you have to start over and rebleed the system.

I do not know what is says in the Shimano manual but when bleeding the brakes be sure not to let release the lever while you have the system opened (loose bolts) or it will suck air back into the lines.

there is a definate break-in period on disc breaks. It took me about 4 rides to start getting them where i thought they should be. Just give it time and ride hard.

Be sure to give us a report!

Thanks guys for the tips. Tommorow i will receive the 170mm rotor and i will finally install the front brake as well. I hope that the 170mm rotor will fit with my manitou axel fork...since the 160mm that i had didnt.
