Hi Folks,

This is, I suppose, a philosophical question:
I'm converting an old frame to a fixed gear. I'd like to keep the simplicity of a pure fixed gear hub, but remain true to the cheapness of a conversion. It seems that all of the cheap wheels are fixed/free flipflops. Is there a cheap (under $100) option for a simple fixed wheel?

I suppose I could just remove the cartridge and put in spacers and a lockring, but that doesn't fit with the simplicity deal, to me.

Thanks,
s

Why dont you want fixed/free flipflips?

If you really want to retain ghettoness, just get a cheap flipflop and tape over the freewheel threads on the other side.

I also don't understand why you can't just use a flipflop and ignore the extra threading. Formula makes a great simple high flange flipflop hub with cartridge bearings and nice track nuts. I think they go for around $50 or so. For a small fee, I am willing to take any typical aluminum flipflop hub (formula, etc) and machine off the freewheel threading to give you a simpler looking hub. :) Seriously.
