someone stopped by work today with a an almost complete bike for me. it was missing a front wheel. it has shimano 600 brakes, a japanese named set of bars( which i can't recall the name), shimano hubs, as well as shimano cranks and derailers. the bike was obviously repainted (with no front badge), so i don't know what kind of bike it is. it did have down tube shift levers though. it had what looked like a "W" or what looks like a crown near all the welded spots. anyone have any idea what kind of bike this might be? any and all info would be much appreciated.

Sounds like one of the better Miyatas. Some of 'em had "M" s cut out of the lugs...

I concur with Miyata. Generally, if the M is cut into the lugs, it is early 1980s, while a raised M indicates mid-1980s. Shimano 600 suggests a model 912, which was top of the mid-range series. If you post the serial number and some pics, I should be able to confirm the manufacturer and model, and narrow down the year.

I just saw one of these this weekend at a garage sale. The frame was black or some dark color and the lugs were silver or gray wuth the "W" in black. It also had the Shimano 600 group on it.

I guessed it was around mid 80's.

the words miyada are on the top of the forks.
