I ride the same inbound route same time everyday. I recognize a lot of the same drivers, too. I'm sure they recognize me, as well.

There's a traffic light that runs on a timer that I always have to count down to hit it on green. As I approach the light in the right lane, the drivers that pass me used to move in front of me in my lane and sort of block me at the light. But now, they seem to be staying in the left lane, as if they know I'm timing the light and are being courteous by staying out of my way so I can hit it on green.

Could I be wrong? Is there some other reason they might be lining up in the left lane, as much as 10 or 15 cars long, when there's an empty right lane in front of me?

If I'm right, I have to say I'm very touched. Thanks, folks!

;)

I bet there is a High School to the left and all the kids take the left lane to get there.

It's possible that they feel like they "know" you now, and are less comfortable cutting you off than they were when you were more of a stranger.

Human nature.

Like the time a lady pulls up next to me at the traffic light one afternoon. It's a long light, so she starts talking to me.

"I see you everyday. I always toot my horn lightly to let you know I'm coming, but not too close so I don't startle you."

I recognize lots of the vehicles I see about the same time everyday, especially when they do something unusually courteous, like slow down and pass me slowly with lots of spare room. It's not that I need it, but it makes me feel respected, and generates good will.
