Bicycle Mechanics - RSX shifter died

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with rsx shifters.
Mine started acting up after 150 miles and completely fell apart around the 400 mile mark.
That's certainly not typical.
RSX is really, really cheap stuff. Still, it shoulda lasted at least 1 summer....

My RSX shifters are on my commuter now and have worked fine since '95. I'm not sure why yours are having problems.
Why do so many people have to bash the lower end components so much? I've had great service from all of the Shimano lines.
Maybe I'm just a damn fine bike mechanic. ;)

Just wondering, is it both shifters or just one? Did it literally fall apart? Have you checked the cable inside the shifter to make sure it isn't frayed?

Maybe I'm just a damn fine bike mechanic. ;) Maybe bcuz there are natural born bashers and then there are the riders and the wrenches.Creates balance in the world.

No. I spend the extra money for decent components, and leave the cheapo stuff for those who don't know any better.

It was the right shifter, the internals broke apart. Took it to a lbs that I trust--not the one I bought the bike from. Replaced the shifter and cable everything works fine now.

I don't buy cheap whiskey, either. Maker's Mark is about the cheapest stuff I can stomach. Leave the cheap stuff for those who live in trailers...........
