so I'm looking right now at an iro mark V, a pake, or one of those $350 complete windsor jobs (selling everything and rebuild from the ground up). anyone know any frames under or around the $300 mark that are worth looking into? or which of these is my best bet?

the mercier is the cheapest track frame you'll get new.
the fork is nicer than the windsor, fuji or pista.

Spicer/KHS/Mercier - all the same.
If you want to support spicer spend the extra cash, from what i read here, Gene's a great guy.
but the title of this thread is track frames on the cheap.
The Mercier is the same frame, but black, and for $25+/- more you get a complete bike...

Anyone got a link with more info on the Pake? I'm looking to expand the fleet in the near future.

hey, I've got a pake question--do you run a 49 on the front? is your bottom bracket small enough to make the left crank nearly flush with the frame?
the way mine is set up (by the lbs), the bottom bracket seems too big for the frame, yet the chainring doesn't look like it can get any closer to the frame without scraping. weird?

sounds like you have an assymetrical BB. like a shimano 110mm.

hm. hm. Is that something I should worry about/change? Or just leave be?

if you feel totally lopsided, or you just hate the aesthetics change it to a 107. you'll have the same chainline.
otherwise no problem.

Unless you're totally in love with the threadless fork, the angus seems like a better deal for that price.
*edit - oh right, geometry too..

I was just on FGG and now Pake is a "Gallery" supporter. Looks like Dennis will have it built up and then review it.

meh--mine is 21 pounds fully built, and I don't have light components. at all. Seems pretty on par with what people were saying in the "how heavy is your bike" thread.
as for price, I think Bicycle Station is selling the frame and fork for $250.

It's not difficult to build a 19 pound IRO Mark V. Lighter frame, same price. Slightly more relaxed geometry.

If you want a good example of a pake, check hyperrevue's signatured. His has the bikeworks fork on it, and looks quite classy.

Clarifying, I like my Pake. For my application, daily commuting and occasional exercise, it makes the right trade-off's between performance and resilience. I'm not the kind of rider who can detect an extra pound on the frame, and I don't want to worry about the top tube creasing if the wind blows on the bike while it's chained to the rack.
