Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Im builing a 2006 Pista concept frame. Im going for a celeste / silver / white color scheme. I want to see if I can get white decals. I dont want to go with any carbon except for the bb.
This is what im planning:
Fork- Brushed Aero aluminum undecided
Wheels- Campy Pista hubs laced to Mavic Open Pro rims -front either triple cross or radial
Crank- Campy Pista, with Campy Pista bb
Saddle- Bianchi Fizik Arione
Stem- Thomson silver oversized 130mm 10 degrees
Seatpost- Thomson silver
Heatset- Campy Pista integrated
Tires- ? something extremely light, clinchers
Bars- ? something anodized silver oversized
Pedals- ? either Campy Pista clipless or clips and straps
I want to know what you thinkand if you would change anything.

Alum fork and stem...**** you are not goin to be able to ride this bike on the street. That will be the most uncomfortable bike ever. You better go with a plastic seat while your at it.
edit: I didnt even get to the radial lacing/ you are goin to die

no wait: radial front and back, aluminum everything, kashimax five gold, 200 psi tubies

Yeah dude, totally... that power transfer to the front wheel is crucial.

I've had a secret love for the Bianchi Concepts. I would buy one, build it, and enter a triathlon. Where I wouldn't run or swim. Just suddenly show up and blow past everyone in oxygen deprived wind tunnel form. The look on thier faces...
Well yeah. It's a pipe dream and founded on only my love hate relationship with the tri folks around here. (We get a long fine but hack at eachother regularly).

Good luck finding an 2003 or 2004. They are tough to find and hot.
If you've already found one, sweet.

Trackstar seems to get them fairly often. I got mine not too long ago as NOS and they just had another one go out the door.

I've been too lazy to peel the sticker off and I don't really care either way how it looks with or without.

It's a personal thing. It's not part of the graphic design of the bike. It's just put on due to import regulations or whatever. Sort of like warning stickers on how to work a quick-release or "inspected by #42".
Nothing agianst Taiwan ROC.

Oh...I loved that bike. I probably had it longer than any other track bike I have owned. My only problem with the thing is that I brake ****. And because of it being Alum, I was always afraid I would brake it. Even though I probably could have put another 3,000 miles on it and it would have been fine. The bike handles great, accelerates like a mother****er, isnt too uncomfortable with a carbon seatpost and fork(I probably would have bought those new carbon FSA track-drops for it had I kept it), and the bikes geometry is super nice. All in all, the bike felt great, rode great, but it just is not steel( my true love.)

My dos centados:
Get a no set-back seatpost and increase the length of your stem. (I assume that is a 9cm stem, go to a 11cm stem.)
FWIW, YMMV
wangster
05-24-06, 10:23 AM
yeah I do want a zero setback post but they tend to cost a lot and no, the stem is a 70mm? or 80? its really short... I do want a longer stem... I want to use the deda newton pista.
The Maid in Taiwan sticker is part of the beauty of the bike.

This forum's anal-retentiveness about brake vs. break has now been thrown for a loop. ;)

God fu*kin' dammit, that's short...
Have patience and search eBay for those Thomson posts. They do come up from time to time, cheap.
Forget the Newton Pista. The drop is too steep for your set-up. And its over-priced... Put your money where it counts, not on what things look like.
Search eBay for Tom Ritchey Pro stems (for stiffness) or WCS stems (for lightness). I would go with the Pro stems. You can get them cheap, and they come (old stock) in -17* or -6* angles (new stock).
If they are stiff enough for the pro peleton/elite track sprinters, they will be stiff enough for you.
wangster
05-24-06, 10:42 AM
I do like the pro stem, but I have a chance to buy a 90mm newton for 55 so thats a good deal. I'll figure it out one I have the seatpost. It fits pretty well now, but it can be much better I agree.

Yeah I already have a 59cm 2003 black concept lined up, he wants a price thats higher than a brand new '06 because of the rarity of the color and the size. For the price, I'm wondering if I'll be happier just getting the planet x track frame which is a little more expensive but seems a little more race spec, plus it seems like everyone is on a concept these days. I plan on building up the '03 Concept as follows, with mostly parts I already have:
B123s
black - thomson stem 15 deg flipped so its horizontal (screw comfort)
black - thomson straight seatpost
Selle Italia SLR saddle - I'm contemplating a white SLR and maybe using white bar tape too.
Dura-ace track cranks with a FSA chainring with the FSA logos blacked out, or else a new Sugino messenger ring.
Wheelset- I have silver phils laced with black spokes to nonmachined deep-vs with all black rubber, no colored BS.
I have been praying for an 03 concept in my size for a while, but now everyone has them, and I'm wondering if I should just spring for the Planet X frame. Oh the other thing shying me away from the Concept is that Concepts in big frame sizes aren't very pretty, they have very long headtubes, and the proportions don't look as beautiful as smaller sizes.
Look at the difference in these sizes:
Big Concept Frame (http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2005/june/BMitchell.htm)
Small Size Frame (http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2005/mar/EricWolforth.htm)

juvi-kyle
05-24-06, 11:13 AM
you dont want to use a messenger ring, they are too small. Compact drive trains on the track are the worst...
Learn_not2burn
05-24-06, 11:31 AM
Yeah the messenger ring was for the street runs, I gotta learn to spin in the worst way, I rode my old track bike only on the streets with 49X15 and can't spin worth crap now. I have some other QBP and FSA rings that are my track gearing kit.
