yes. :)

I stopped today to help a couple of older women who flatted out and didn't know what to do. Another bicyclist had stopped and switched out their tubes but left them to pump up a dead "new" tire. So I helped them patch the old tire up and get it back in and pumped. During which time about 5 out of ten bicyclist slowed down to ask if we had everything we need. (damn, Denver is bike friendly!) The woman offered me money but I refused...asking only that after she took the "fix a flat course" from her husband that she would help other stranded bicyclists.

My compensation? Telling you guys about it. I thought my karma would be good for the day but I had an awful day at work. What gives?

I guess karma doesn't work that way, or you already got your reward of feeling good for doing good. But consider yourself hugged! :)

Karma is not a daily exchange - it carries over lifetimes. Be patient.

But....that's not how it works on My Name Is Earl! ;)

Karma bites you in the butt if you expect a reward. You're reward is the knowledge that you did the right thing.

So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice. - Carl Spackler

I think that is the truest statement I've read in weeks.:)

Someone once taught that if you do good deeds for show then the only reward you have is praise from others. It seems to me that your motive was a bit more altruistic than that at first ...

Karma? Too impersonal a force for me to trust. A personal Judge may extend mercy...

It is your expectations that bite you in the butt, not karma.
