I suggest you learn the laws of all states you cycle thru. A good start is here:

+1 for checking all the cycling laws in each state. Most helmet laws are targeted at kids (some under 12, some under 16) so you probably will not be violating any helmet laws as an adult.
Despite there not being any laws, wear one anyway. Why don't you like them? Get too hot with one on? Don't want to mess up your hair? Hate helmet hair? Not convinced they protect you from injury despite statistics that prove otherwise? Why?

The OP asked about law, not about if he should. Please direct discussion on helmet use to this thread:

The OP asked about law, not about if he should.Al
He stated he does not like to wear helmets, I advised he wear one anyway guessing he will not do so unless there is a law saying he has to & I asked why he does not like to wear one.
That's my take on it...law or not.
The odds of making a crash worse is far, far slimmer than the odds of it reducing the damage one's head might take.
If you are off-roading it, please wear a helmet. Yes, I thought they were dorky as hell at one time too, but I got over it....it's those giant foam beachballs of helmets they sell at x-marts that make people dislike helmets.
There is a lot of variation in helmet fit even from the same manufacturer. Try lots of different helmets. If you really dont want to wear a helmet, dont , regardles of whether there is a law or not. There is very little of enforcement of these laws, so if you get fined be prepared to pay and curse your bad luck.
Be aware than local municipalities may also have adult bicycle helmet laws. I do not know of a comprehensive source to check these.
What is the deal if you are from NY and a local Louisianna municipality gives you a ticket for not wearing a helmet. A) Why should that be any different than one state recognizing the validity of another state's mariage... OK, bad example... and, two, assuming they don't collect the fine on the spot, what ability do they normally have to collect on such tickets?

Many have the habit of just warning you, unless there are other factors (like spitting on the officer's boots). The courts will say that ignorance of the law is no excuse.
For many years, the practise around here was for the office to confiscate your driver's license when he issued you a ticket. Pretty well guaranteed you would follow up on the ticket.
