Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hello,
is there a state in the US where biocycle helmets ar e required by law?
I'm going on a x-country trip and i don't like helmets at all, and wanted to know if i needed to have one by law.
thanks,
Pacho
Can't answer your question, I'm sure someone has a grid for you.
I rode about 600 miles through provinces with helmet laws, stopping to ask cops where I could camp etc... never wearing a helmet. I did carry one in my paniers just in case. I know zero tolerance crap varies a lot these days but it didn't seem to be an issue.
Can't guarantee accuracy, but I believe this should help! :)

Why would you not wear a helmet?
"Why would you not wear a helmet?"
Not scared of my bike. There are many far more dangerous things I do in the run of a day like work off ladders or drive cars, and I don't wear helmets for those either. The other major issue is that in 40 years of riding I have only come off once and that was during the summer I learned to ride, before bike helmets had been invented. So it's like rock climbing, use a rope if you are planing to fall, as when pushing one's limits. Don't climb as though you are roped if you aren't.
Let's say orange is the safest cycling colour, or lime green. Maybe people with lime green bikes and clothes get hit by cars less often. If that were the case would you bother to ask anyone you met who wore a different colour or had a different colour bike "Why would you not wear lime green? But for some reason we havne't been as effectively sold that bill of goods.
