Commuting - Just re-did 75% of my drivetrain, tweaked bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I bought a used bike and a few months later the cranks started wobbling quite a bit no matter how much I bolted them on there...found out that the original owner or bike shop installed the cranks improperly. I was hoping the bottom bracket was OK...it wasn't.

Just got a new FSA Megaquad BB, some 'Trekking' cranks from Nashbar, and replaced my old chain with a SRAM 971 while I was at it. I kept my rear cog but cleaned the hell out of it, other than that it's all new. I also tuned the front and rear derailers for a couple hours last night, and readjusted my seat height.

Man, it's like a whole new bike now! Maybe it's all psychological, but I seriously felt like 2-3 MPh faster today. The new drivetrain shifts instantly (it's especially better up front), it has to be more efficient without the wobble, and the re-tweaked seat height is more efficient on my legs (it was about an inch too low for some reason, maybe it 'sunk' into the frame slowly over the past few months).

That was a fun ride this morning - when I got to work I was tempted to just keep going :)

I know what your saying...I just revamped my fixed gear commuter by switching my bullhorns for drops and I custom built myself a new pair of wheels, with a new chain and cog. These new wheels are stiff as hell and with the more dropped position, I'm riding several MPH faster, especially up and down hills.
