My wife and I finally sold our car today. After having it on the market for a few months, someone finally came along and helped us gain our freedom. I can't say how excited I am. Not only do I no longer have to worry about it, maintian it, spend money on insurance to have it sit in the driveway, but I now also have the coin from the sale sitting in the bank earning interest.
Ironically enough, we're renting a car tomorrow to go on a raod trip to visit family over the weekend. I really wish that train fare were more economically feasible.

Congratulations! For all the reasons you mentioned above and more you have made a wise choice. Now it's time to freak your neighbors out and park your bike(s) in the driveway while you wash them some Sunday morning. :p

Wow, if you were a 3,300 pound bicyclist, you'd consume almost as much energy to get around as the average motorist does while driving!

All you have to do now is get your mileage capabilities up so you don't even have to rent that car! ;)
Nice job! I say you should use a little of that money to buy a pen, paper, stamp and envelope and write your rep's for better public transportation options! :)

It's really sad that the train costs more than renting a car. <sigh>

Welcome to the club, Dizzy and cosmo starr.
Dizzy, have you looked into Greyhound bus for your road trip? I take a 5 day trip every month, about $75 round trip for a 200 mile distance. I think a "companion fare" is available for 2 riding together, and there are big savings if you buy the ticket a week in advance. You might want to look into it. http://www.greyhound.com
