I'm fixing up an old bike and the current rims are pretty much busted. Are mag wheels a good bet or would I be better off with wire-spoked wheels? I'm looking for something at a good price but still quality.

Mag wheels are not very strong, and the only thing the have going for them are looks.

Stick with regular spoke wheels unless its an old school bike that your fixing up and not going to ride.

Are there any good places online to get wheels then? Again, nothing too fancy or expensive (in searching I even came across wheels with spinners), but just something basic that won't crumple under the weight of a 23 year old learning basic tricks.

Sweet, thanks. One last question then. What am I looking for in wheels as far as quality? I know what size I need, but that's about it. What other details would I want to think about?

48h(number of spokes) if your learning tricka an are sketchy.
They should all be 20"

Chrome rims are nice for braking also.

I personally hate mag wheels. If you land sideways at all, you will probably either crack or snap them. Spokes would be the way to go no matter what kind of bike you are building.

Mags are for NOS 80s bikes and Billy Fran-whatever-sky. That is all.

Thanks for the pictures for the majority of us who have never seen mag or spoked wheels. You're a life saver.

You would have proven that theory if you stated that you had a lot of bad landings and haven't cracked the mags. For those of us that have been riding longer than your dad, we've seen plenty of cracked mags.

And please, enough with the picture posting. I will be deleting them. You're either wasting BF bandwidth, or wasting someone else's.

Alright Mr. KnowItAll, whats this?

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c68/XxHarobiker/Frm-Device.jpg

Would that be a Freestyle frame from redline that a lot of pros use?

Nope cant be. "redline frames are all thin and not for freestyle." I'm sure Tyrone Williams only rides it to get to the local corner store, becuase it aint sutable for tricks.

You truly are ********.

My friend has this exact bike, the stock fork, bars, sprocket and cranks, we put some Skyways on it, and a red Primo Wall, and it was good to go.

Now that he has a new stronger and bigger bike, how much would you say that the frame, fork, bars, sprocket and chainwheel are worth on this bike?
