Mountain Biking - A sad inconvenience

I learned a sad thing today. Seems as if my LBS went out of business. I left home for the holidays under the impression that their building was being renovated. Well, today, I read an article saying that they went under. To bad as they were one of Vancouvers older shops, as well as the location that I deal with in Victoria. The real kicker, my ride is under warranty there and I need work done on it that I am not comfortable dealing with myself. Now I have to scout out a new shop to deal with, on top of that I'll have to fork out more cash to get my bike fixed. A real hassle, and a real shame because I was extremely happy with the shop. I guess things could be worse, I could have taken my bike in and since they went under, it would most likely have gotten lost there. Oh well, time to move on I guess. <sigh>

Have you actually been back to the store? Sometimes when businesses go bust they leave a note on the door telling customers where to go for warranty claims or whatever.

I'd certainly try to track down the owners and see if they have made any arrangements for their ongoing businesses. You obviously don't want to cause them grief, they are probably already feeling badly about losing the store, but you may find a way to get your servicing done under warranty.

Man bring that bike to any specialized dealer...and it'll be taken care of under warranty. The way it works is, and this is for any shop, if there is a warranty issue they do what ever has to get done on the bike and then specialized will give them a credit for the labor they put in. If any shop tells you that you have to take it to the shop you bought it at, then they aren't a good shop! Good luck man...

Hey how is BC? I'm gonna be takin a trip up there in February, gonna check out some schools and see if I can find any jobs up there! From what I've seen it beautiful up there...hopefully I can find something so I can live up there. Later man...and good luck with the bike. :beer:

Yeah I did go check out the store. They still have a renovating sign up. But good idea to try out my warranty elsewhere. First Ill email the company though, then find another Brodie dealer. Thanks for the advice.

BC rocks dude. Its 8-10 degrees here in Victoria. I ride everyday, in the sunlight. Seems El Nino has chased the rain away. And while its not quite the North Shore here, we still have some insane riding. I tell you, Im new and you're just forced to learn. The intermediate trails can really kick your @$$, let alone the black diamonds. Pending on where you want to go, the jobs are a bit tough right now. I got lucky right away, but you never know. And some top notch schools here to. But im sure everyone says the same bout there location. :D One thing for sure. Where ever you live in BC, the riding is top notch. Even besides the obvious mainstream locations.

Hey man...sorry I got dumb there for a minute..some how I thought you had a specialized, I guess that's what I get for reading to many topics on this site...ha ha ha. But ya the same will still hold true for Brodie's...any authorized dealer will be able to take care of it for you. :beer:

You must be talking about the bike cellar...yeah real bummer...never went there but I heard good things about...but then again I have never been to the island :)

The island has some of the best trials riders around. I saw a demo and what you guys lack in 'shore' you make up for in street. :)

You got that right Maelstrom. You can't walk five feet downtown without some kid hopping his bike on and over anything and everything. Its very cool to watch. Victoria is an old city with lots of old stone and stuff. Lots of obstacles for the kids to work on. I love to watch em.

My goal next year is to learn more trials stuff...I may even take some time in victoria :)

Cool, would be a definate change from Whistler. Looks like you know your ABC's too :D Alcohol, Bikes, Computers. (I assume your free time like most peoples on the hill is getting in some partying.)
