I just broke the 1000-km mark today!!! Yay! This was done with about three rides a week with no commuting since March. That was a very light month with only about 100 km done but April was when I really ramped up to well over 500 kms. May shows a slowdown due to something I'm working on.

June should be an excellent month for mileage especially if I do that Toronto to Montreal bike tour that I'm considering. :D

Barring any mishaps, I've got a goal of over 5000 km this year.

Anyone else?

Complete the Death Ride in July .

I'd like to see 2007.

And ride 4000 miles for the year.

I don't have a goal for total distance for the year, but I do a have a number of smaller milestones. I just got my first adult bike in April and my first ride consisted of 30min at about 13km/h and I thought I was going to die. I'm now up to 2 hours at 20km/h... my goals for the rest of the summer are as follows:

Ultimate Goal:
5 hours straight @25km/h

To Get There:
* Ride for 3 hours straight at a minimum speed of 15km/h (I've done 3 hours at 17km/h but it was broken into 2 rides that day), then 4, then 5.
* Ride for 1 hour, 2 Hours, 3 Hours, 4 hours @ 25km/h

Goals and milestones do not necessarily have to be in terms of distance. I'm also trying to attain and beat an average speed of 20 km/hr. So far, depending on various conditions, I'm able to barely break that mark. I'm sure that I will get better at it. :)

I suppose my most specific goal is to lose about 3-4 inches around the middle over the course of the summer. I could put down weight goals, but I am noticing that as I start riding harder and longer that I must be building muscle mass as the weight is going up, but the pants are looser. I think I may need to go out any buy a pair of the next size down, in fact.

I would really like to do a century someday. I don't know if this is the year for it - I am doing some shorter weekday morning rides and this seems to be helping with building stamina. The main thing I need to work on is keeping on top of hydration, electrolytes and food intake during the ride so I don't bonk.

I did 45 miles today. The temperature was getting into the mid 80s here by noon (I started at 7AM to try and get some riding in while it was still in the 60's), and the heat was starting to get to me at the end. Sometimes it helps to have extra water not to drink but to dump over your head.

I'd like to do a 200 miler within 24 hours. Looks like I'm on schedule to do so around November.

Goals are 5,000+ miles and 500,000+ feet of climbing. I'm well over halfway there on the mileage (currently 3,050) but a tiny bit behind on the climbing. Should have no trouble making that up in the next few weeks and months.

Part of the mileage so far includes my first double century (completed in just under 15 hrs). Hoping to complete all 5 passes of the Death Ride in July, as well as at least one day of the Everest Challenge in September.

Getting a job a nice commute 12 to 20 miles from home. I am most motivated to ride when it is a commute.

survival, after that, keep it under 15,000 miles for 2006

at least one century this summer

Lose 28 more pounds this year, and do my first century August 20th.

I realized a milestone today!

For the last two weeks i have
more mileage on my bikes thn
on my car.

My new goal for 2006 til the end
of the year will be to put more
mileage on my bikes than my car.

I should wind up with at least 3,000
miles on my bikes this year.

I hope to lose some weight, be productive in life, and not get taken out by an asteroid strike.

Win a Cat 5 race, and upgrade to Cat 4. Train my hardest for the 2007 season.

11 pounds down, 34 more to go. Wanting to go from 228 in March to 185 by the end of the year. May have to get a stationary to do it though.

I'm just starting out but I'd like to be able to get a 2 hr bike ride, a 1 hr run, and a 30 min run in every week, along with my carless, bike commuting lifestyle, and still have energy to go out Fri night. I'd also like to be able to bike the 6 miles of 90% uphill from my home to the trail heads, then hike for a few hours, and coast home.

IronMac

I just unintentionally did my first 100 km ride for this year this morning! I wasn't planning on it since I wanted to gradually build up but it was such a nice day and I had three Chips Ahoy! cookies and a banana with me so I just kept on going. :D

Nykon

My goal is to be 175 by the end of the year. That is a little less than 10lbs a month. I am at 228 today, and am shooting for 225 by then end of this month. That last 3 lbs just doesn't want to come off so I am going to step up the exercise a lot this last week. I started at 255ish in mid April. I also plan on finding a way to bike more and drive less. I may be getting transfered to a new position in my company soon that will turn my 4 mile commute into a 15 mile commute (one way) so that should help my goals a lot.

I would like to be able to fit into this vintage dress from the 1930's that I haven't been able to wear for 3 years. I think it would take about a 10 lbs loss in the right places. Fortunately bicycle exercise does that for me. I'd also like to be able to haul that 40 lbs bag of cat litter home in a bicycle trailer with ease. I've got to get a trailer first, but then there are some hills between the pet store and home.

Didn't have access to my spreadsheet for the past week so I couldn't really keep track but it seems that June is the first month where I did over a thousand kilometers and, as a consequence, I've also passed the 2000 km mark. :D

M3ta7h3ad

I want to get down closer to that 200lb marker this year, hopefully under it.

Currently riding around: 260-270ish.

Aiming for 200lb anything more is a bonus :)

IronMac

Just did my first 200 km ride this year a couple of days ago. :D

IronMac

Woohoo!!! I've just broken the 5000 km mark!!! It was not as hard as I'd expected and I would have reached it sooner if I didn't have to stand down for saddlesores and knee injuries this month. Didn't think I would be able to do it but once I hit July it was only a matter of time!

5000 km was my "hard" target. ;)

Congrats Iron, I recently did my 1st 100km ride (after back surgery twice since last Sept). Im at 1400+ miles, goal was 2000 for '06. Another upcoming goal ; ride my 1st 'real' century. Hope to accomplish this by the end of Aug. Also another 'goal' Ive met, I got at least one friend to buy a road bike and we ride together about once a week!

Thanks Havs! I'm not sure how gung-ho you are in riding in cooler winter weather (what with being in WI and all...hehehe) but you're close to hitting your goal this year. Good for you! :)

Broke 6000 km recently. September's numbers just imploded due to injuries but October is looking good so far. :D

I'm looking to close out year 2006, my second year of cycling, with 3,000 miles on the odometer. I'm at 2,506 with 3 months to go, so I should make it if the weather holds out for me.

Also, I wanted to complete three specific centuries - 1) The Heartbreak 100, 2)the Sierra Fall Century, and 3) The Grizzly. #1 & #2 are in the bag, and #3 is this weekend.

IronMac

Just broke 7000 km recently. October's numbers haven't been very good due to poor weather. :(

IronMac

Just broke 8000 km recently. November's numbers aren't as good as I would like but there are still 10 days left or so. I think that 9000 km is do-able but I am not sure about hitting 10000 km. I haven't been able to do any long-distance rides of 200+ km recently. :(

cat 2.

whatever it takes to get there

Just broke the 9000 km mark with a horrific, oh-no-I've-lost-my-pannier, hunt of a ride.

Maybe I can hook up with 72 Virgins. If I can't do that I'll try to cut back on the chips and salsa. Plus I want to make an organic-rice stir-fry using all fresh vegetables and healthy oils.

9081.9 km was my total for 2006...would have been more but other priorities cropped up. Ahhh well :)

IronMac: Did you do the Toronto->MTL ride last year? I assume you're referring to the FFL Bike Rally. I actually did it for the first time last year and had a blast. I'm likely going to do it again this year. My milestones/goals for the year:

-ride my first Century (of the year) by early May.
-ride my first back to back centuries (ever) in June
-depending on how I feel when the event happens (2 weeks after the back-to-back), complete my first double-century
-ride to montreal again at the end of July
-compete in my first cross series in the Fall

No, I did not do the FFL ride. I was considering possibly volunteering for it but bowed out for some reason. Over a decade ago, when the idea of an FFL ride was punted about I was part of the organizing committee until the head honcho took off for Australia. Then, another group took up the idea and launched it.

I'm seriously considering a century this weekend so long as the weather holds. :)
