Folding Bikes - Upgrades almost done on my Bike Friday

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I got my Bike Friday Pocket Pilot about 2 weeks ago.
Upgrades I have done:
Changed Tektro entry level brake calipers with Ultegra calipers,
Changed Tektro brake levers with some Shimano Br 600's.
New Brake cables as well.
Replaced 52 Tiagra chainring with FSA 53.
Replaced Shimano Altus rear derailleur with Ultegra short cage 6600.
Replaced Sram pg 830 11-32 rear cassette with pg 850 11-28.
Put on a Brooks B-17 special saddle
Shimano 540 pedals.
I have Shwalbe Stevios tires on the way
and last thing will be a carbon seatpost.
Almost every item above was not necessary as this bike rode great right out of the box
but I now have a bike that rides as nice as my full sized road bike and is exactly the way I want it.
If I only could keep one bike, it would be this one.
On the other had I have done nothing to my new Dahon Helios P8 except put on a Brooks saddle and I am having a ball riding that one as well.
I am hooked on these d*&^m folders now!!!!

Thanks for the insight. I am sure my wife would love to here that!!!!
We already have a garage full of bikes. I guess she should be happy they are still in the garage.
Just out of curiosity, what is the 5th that is being comtemplated?

I'm considering a Dahon Helios SL. I like the thought of a 16.8lb folder. If I convert it to single speed, I can probably get it to 16lb.. It's either that or I really want to try an Air Friday

I read your upgrades again and we used almost the exact same parts... The only difference is I'm using a San Marco Regal instead of a Brooks and I built my own wheels with Ultegra hubs and Sun CR18 rims.

Has the Helios SL been discontinued? I see it in 2005 but not 2006.

Helios became two kinds of Mu in '06.

Yes it has been discontinued but I found one. The Helios SL is 2 pounds lighter than the MU

Dave, I would buy the Helios. I think it is D's best value. No doubt D's margins are better on the Mus.

I finally got the Stelvios, a Ritchie seatpost and I got a decent price on an Ultegra 6500 double 53-39 crank that I could not resist.
Bike is complete, nothing left to do but ride.
