Mountain Biking - product research..body armor???

I know many of you use alot of body armor. Does anyone use or would you use ass and hip protection?

i use some hip padding...the dainese has a nice hip and thigh pad set up in it...doesn't really restric your movement to much if any at all. Also you can go with motocross pants that usually have s hip pad in em, I find they don't really stay in place that well though.

I can't coment about any other pads since I haven't used any others. If you can afford it go with the dainese...much better than paying hospital bills!!! Save my butt a bunch of times from stuff that I normally wouldn't have walked away from! :crash:

I would depending on the trail. there are a few that I ride and always smash my hips and a**.
I have tried to find some good pads for that area but being on the larger side no one makes any thing that will fit.
Also, my wife is looking for some pads like that.

I may be new to this forum but I have been riding for around 10 years and if you are a XC rider they are pointless on men(women need beutiful legs). Be a man! all that protective crap just inhibits your riding anyway causing you to fall

unless you are free riding or down hill riding you'll only end up w/ some scratches and bruses that will all go away.

Just my opinion but it seems people are getting to involved in looking the part not being the rider they could be with some practice:rolleyes:

After the crash I had a couple weeks back I think I will lookinto getting some more armor. I like that flak jacket but I'm afraid I would look like the pillsbury doughboy in that thing. Maybe I can dust off the old MX chest protector, it would have saved me lots of grief that day...

Ever try football jersey. The pants with removable pads...through a pair of shorts over top and it would look fine :)

I use the hip pads that came with my moto-shorts. Though not very thick, I figure better than nothing.

hillbillydirtgear.com , I'll have products in a month or so. The padded undershorts are actually designed for mountainboarding, so they have way more pads than any bike or motorcycle pants. Maybe too much for bikes. I was thinking downhill and the crazy people on those freestyle type of mountainbikes probably bash their hips ,tailbone and ass up. thanks for the input. any more info is appreciated

I don't personally use it and probably won't feel the need unless I was going much bigger than I do.

So what sizes will it come in?

they will come in 3-4 sizes between 23-38 in waist. they have a drawstring, so if you like them baggy, they will stay up. or they can be snug. Retail price 50$. I think they will be great for those days you are giving it 110%, or riding rock like in Moab.

Send me a pair to demo for you. I'll try to abuse myself while wearing them, and give you a full analysis and report, complete w/pictures! ha ha!

So the waist will fit but what about the thighs? Mine measure in at 30".
Finding pants that fit my waist is not a problem, it is my thighs that they never fit without cutting off circulation.

the pads are held together by light weight, durable mesh that is stretchable( except wear the pads are) and breathable. If you have huge legs you could get a larger size and use the drawstring on the waist. I have to admit , they were not designed for 30 in. legs, but I think they will work because the material is so flexable.

The mesh wont work for me. It will be stretched so tight that when I crash it will rip (from experiance). Also, being so tight it will restrict my movment.

30 in. legs...jeez. Not too many mountainboarders are built that. I am doing research to see if there is interest in a product like what I described. the mesh is in front mostly so you dont get hot where you dont need pads. they are very durable...mountainboarders slide on their hips and ass 10, 20, 30 ft. , so with your favorite pants over them they should last quit a while. Do you think their is a market for this in mountainbiking?
