YOu need a specific cassette tool. They aren't that expensive.

Needed: cassette lock ring wrench, chain whip
Take off quick release.
Put cassette lock ring wrench in the cassette lock ring.
Lay chain whip (or chain wrapped around crankset) over cassette.
Wrench the lock ring off counterclockwise while holding the cassette from freewheeling with the chain whip.

Chain whip not necessary if you want to go cheap. A old section of chain could work as well.
I'm a complete idiot when it comes to bike mechanics and I changed mine out with the special $5 nut thingy and a wrench... didn't even use a chain whip... (I used a thick glove and my hand instead :) )

Yeah, I use a black shirt and my hand. It's pretty easy.
