I'm about to mount my Tubus on my Klein Navigator (had H**L finding the right bolts!). I don't want these bolts backing out while on the road. Should I:

a) drill the threaded part of the bolt that extends past the frame and put in a retaining pin
b) use lock-tite or other thread-locker to prevent the bolts from backing out
c) both

Thanks!

I'd think prudence would dictate a little thread locker and since you found some, buy a spre set to carry with you.

Nylocks work great, too, or if you're really obsessive, double nut them.

Also, don't forget to check them regularly for tightness.

You want to check all you fasterners from time to time. I used blue locktie also And carried a spare bolt since the same bolt can cover a lot of uses on the bike.

I use blue locktite, lock nuts, and double nuts often in concert depending on clearances.
Then people think I'm anal :P

Hi Peterpan1!

Not in this case - the rear dropouts use 10-32 bolts - not the usual 5mm. Keeping a spare 10-32 on the bike IS a good idea, though. Thanks to all who suggested Locktite. I think that'll be my route.

+1 on Nylocks, I use them on racks and toeclips. Vibrations will not budge them. If you use Locktite you have to reapply if you remove the bolts.

crazy glue gel.

i like your cotter pin idea but sounds like lotta work with not pretty results.

someone alluded to this above, nylon locknuts are super.
