:)
To all the mega-geek fanboys currently posting hate mail all over the interweb at a rate only exceeded by the amount of cheap porn they download....Go to hell.:) This movie is awesome. Bret Ratner totally came through, and NO, it's nothing like the comic book, but so what. It's a film, dickwad, get over it. Why don't you guys spend all of that extra time playing Halo and Warcraft, and learn to make movies yourselves?
Serious review coming later, for now I recommend this film HIGHLY, and suggest you go into it to be entertained. It's based on a comic book, not the fricken' Dead Sea Scrolls. That's why it's called "entertainment" and not "holy confirmation". Geez, get a life already.
:D

And, if you miss it, don't worry: Magneto will return.
P.S., I don't think it can be called a "superhero" movie. Superheros, without exception, always had a weakness. The mutanats are only more or less powerful. The real superheros were the soldiers standing up to the freaks with nothing but plastic guns. :)

wagathon, no spoilers please.
Anyways, don't leave until the lights comes on, (kinda)important scene after the credit ends.

I hear that X4 will be about a mutant that is bitten by a vampire and after that, it can turn water into cabernet and destroys the economy of France. :)

What a reminder of just how much stupidity lives in the “talkback” section of aint-it-cool-news! I like the super-hero genre but just can’t take the rabid fanboys.
X3 (X-Men: the Last Stand) is a good movie but not quite up to the standard of X2 – Brian Cox was such a great villain and I liked the story a bit more. X3 has all the elements that make a good superhero movie: spectacular action scenes every 30 seconds; gorgeous babes in hot costumes (notably Rebecca Romijn); and characters who are best appreciated if you know some of their background.
Favorite superhero movie: Hellboy.

Yes, I agree that on a scale of storytelling and poignancy, X2 worked better on many levels.
But the arguments that you have to be a 13-year old boy to like X3 is pointless, since I was a little boy when I most enjoyed comics, not a forty-something year old virgin. Suspension of disbelief is the key to unlocking the viceral joy of this medium, not an appreciation of Frued and Wagner.
I've always wanted to see the things that comics helped me to imagine as a child onscreen. I have always been disappointed, becuase Hollywood feels the need to either pander to "children", and make it unrealistic -or appease the "grown ups", and make it too damn realistic(read:boring). The "real" world is somber and expository enough as it is...and I thank my stars and garters for Brian Singer for giving us enough meat to chew on in the former films, and allow for some unabashed ridiculous action in this one.
I've wanted to see an all out mutant melee for a long time. And this weekend, I finally got one.

Brett Ratner, lol
I hope it's a good movie, but he's a pretty bad director (director-for-hire, not filmmaker)
agree though--it's just a movie, the fanboys are a very small minority of the people who will see it--something they don't understand, but the producers do
I look forward to seeing it...(Famke Jansen http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/party/party0006.gif )

Here's a spoiler I couldn't resist. The Juggernaut has his moment of glory.
While fighting Kitty Pride, he proclaims his mighty badness to the world...
"I'm the Juggernaut, B***H!"
Don't say I didn't warn you...the independent film that inspired the movie:

DON'T drink a beverage while you watch. It's that good.

I havn't seen X-Men 1 or 2, neither have i ever read an X-Men comic book, or do i know anything about what X-Men is.
I saw the movie though, i was confused as to who was who, but i picked it up and *sort of* picked onto the whole story line.
I enjoyed it, it wasn't the 'best movie ever' but it wasn't horrible. I recommened you see it :).
I haven't fully watched #1 or 2, just parts of it. I've seen a clip of X-Men 3, and it looks alright.

I couldn't wait that long. A large Cherry Coke was telling me that I had to participate in the Catch and Release program.
Movie was good. Ghost Rider trailer looks totally badash.

1 and 2 were better, but this is still a good movie, and yes, Kitty Pride was indeed hot. I wish they'd have fleshed out Colossus more, and made him Russian. He was always my favorite X-Man. At least he and Kitty are an item again in the comics. It's about time. (I pretty much grew up with the X-Men in the 80's, and my big brother and cousin gave me all of theirs from the 70's, so yeah, I'm a fan.)

why did charles smile just before he died?
and how did magneto get his powers back at the end?
i saw the movie again today at the theater i really wanted to see it at (it has stadium seating) and noticed the chess peice move... at the first theater i didn't notice that.... do some theaters have better quality projectors?
Merton, to the first question: did you stay until the end of the credits? There’s another short scene that I think you may have missed.
Second question: I think that the serum injected into Magneto suppressed mutant powers, not eliminated them completely, leaving the door open for a partial or complete reversal. I hope that Mystique gets her powers back and returns for the fourth X-Men movie (now inevitable – due to the huge box office).
Some theaters have better quality projectors, but I suspect that you might have blinked at the wrong moment and missed the moving chess piece.

Honestly I left feeling very disapointed. All of the cool x-men who were killed it would make a 4th movie horrible. I just didn't like the way the movie played out honestly. The commercials in the beginning were awesome.
The most disappointing part was the complete absence of Nightcrawler. The assassination scene in X2 was the best part of any of the three movies.
what powers?
No you still have them, your mass posting powers of course.:D

+1 … I hope they bring him back – the acting, costume, makeup, etc - all came together so well with that character.
As for most of the interesting characters getting killed in this movie – the filmmakers can always find a way to bring them back from the dead – that has a long tradition in superhero comics.;) There are also plenty of characters from the comics who haven’t been in any of the movies.

What do you think of Josh Holloway (Sawyer from the TV series Lost) as Gambit? Rumours abound.

I hear there's some new characters in the wings, e.g., Rash Girl can give any guy the clap from 30-yards away and Turd Man can rip one that can instantly drops all pursuers.
