Hey everyone. First off that is so cool how many of you dont have have cars. I never want want one. But here is my question, I finally got the job I really wanted this summer. The place is about 7-8 miles from the house. I plan on using my road bike, but do you guys have any suggestions for a noob like me. I really want to give it a shot, and I hope on the bad days I can tough it out.

yes..just do it!
Actually thats easier then said..but 16 miles a day can a bit much if you are not is shape.
of course you need raingear..a rear rack or a messenger bacl to carry a towel, or change of shirt etc..work stuff etc.
Just take it slow at first..leave plenty of time..so you get to work on time and dont feel rushed or use all your energy.
map and plan the most safest route..the emphaiss is on safety..sometime fastest is not worth the risk, in my op..and of course don't let others discourage you..keep your focus on being carfree..even if others put you down or laugh at the idea..or workers pass you on your way to work..etc.
like anything in life..Attitue is 90 percent of the plan.

Bring some tools, if you don't already. Don't be afraid to get wet ('cause you will, on rainy days); keep a change of clothes in your locker/office at work.
