Foo - Braces?

Who here has had them, or currently has them? Mine came off last friday, and now I have the retainers:(. I cannot talk, I;m salivating way too much. My brain thinks the retainers are food and sends.................

Also, what about teeth bleach? Does it work?

I've got them on now. I have to say, I can't wait to get them off. I've had them Since January 20, 2004.
I am told if I wear my elastics well, I can possibly get them off at the end of the summer. I know all about the salivating.
I had to wear a palatal expander for 7 months. This thing covers the entire roof of your mouth, I was salivating puddles. Hope my experiences with a retainer are not similar!

My youngest son is done with braces and wears a retainer. I'll ask him if he has any problems..he has never complained about it.

I wore braces for 4 years, top and bottom, rubberbands and all.(no night gear)
When they came off(I couldn't stop smiling for months), they were trying a different retainer(just gluing on a wire band ugghh!)
So I never went back and after I got hit in the mouth(with a frisbee) I pulled that wire off.
My overbite is back and worse than it was.
The worst part, is that my bottom teeth scrape my top teeth. Its been 22 years and because of the scraping, the bottom half of my top teeth are nearly transparent. There is also an edge behind 5 of the front teeth which is gonna be expensive to fix. Which will soon, if not already, start to cavity

cant help you with the braces par, but my dad wants to me wear those invisaline ones. but bleaching your teeth, i suggest get that crest whiting strips, they work really really well. my bottom row of teeth was always yellow no matter what, used the strisp and after 7 days they white:D

+1 - After years of painful braces, I didn't wear my retainer and my bottom teeth went back to being slightly less than straight.

Ph I had my retainer once i got my braces off at the beginning of 2005, and op a year later my bottom teeth were shifting once again, so now i have bottom braces only. At least no one can see them:D. But I never had any problems with the retainer.

Since nobody has given these other words of wisdom for those of us who stil are wearing braces:
Always wear your rubber bands!

fifao, FWIW, I checked with my sons and neither of them have problems with their retainers.

No salivating.

You teeth have been moved over the time you wear braces. Once the braces are off they want to shift back. Your retainer keeps that from happening. The 4 years I wore braces were a waste now, because
my teeth shifted back and even got worse than they were originally.

So YES, YOU HAVE TO WEAR YOUR RETAINER!! At least til your teeth settle. Your orthodontist could probably tell you how long is neccessary.
