Road Cycling - How do you call your bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Do you name your bike? I call mine ""LA REGINA" and you? post the name of your bike if you.:D

As I was riding through the Mennonite section of town, I was considering calling mine the Amish HumVee! No not really! I know bad form!
I don't have names for mine, besides "Road Bike", and "Mountain Bike".

I call my Cannondale "Dale".

2Psychlknut. I used to live in Sarasota. If that Amish restaurant is still on Main street and their dessert have not changed- then a person would need to ride more.. Used to love that Amish restaurant. I was into running then?
Where is the Amish section of Sarasota. Been so long don't remember its' whereabouts? Maybe out towards the village of Fruitville?
My road bike is Gina because she thinks she's Italian (she's really from Taiwan, but I haven't told her yet).
My MTB was supposed to be Dolly or something vaguely Appalachian, but the name Hiedi stuck. I guess she named herself. :)

When I saw the title of this thread, I wanted to reply "I just whistle and it comes."
Anyway, when I had one bike it was "my bike."
When I had two bikes they were "the rain bike" and "the good bike."
Lately I've started calling the rain bike -- a steel tourer with fenders and racks that's my primary commuter -- "the truck."
The good bike -- an Airborne ti light touring bike -- is "the Airborne."
The new bike -- a Fuji Roubaix Pro -- is "the new bike."
I have absolutely no imagination whatsoever.

I have never named a bike but somehow I see it as a "male object." So the question is:
In some languages the word for "the" changes depending on whether the object being identified is "masculine" or "feminine." Does anyone know which form of "the" is used in other languages to refer to a bike?

Sometimes I call my bike B***H. When my boss was touching my bike, it would always give me some type of b***hy attitude. Wasn't until after that it started behaving. This is my Concorde by the way, not my Colnago. I haven't made a name for the Colnago yet.

My wife helped me name my bikes - mostly because though I always seem to be talking about them it is not always obvious which one. It is very good of her to listen really :)
Anyway, I have two bikes in the UK: Diana, a Dawes and Penelope, a Peugeot framed Frankenbike*
... And two in the US, both of which were rescue projects that enable me to ride when we are stateside: Sophia, a Schwinn Traveller III, and Miranda, a Miata framed Frankenbike
*Frankenbike - a cycle constructed from an almost random collection of new and old parts...
Cheers,
Ed

I've talked about my bikes' nicknames in a couple of other threads. Right now I'm working, bit by bit,on a project bike. It used to be a ParkPre Comp Limited. I'm building it up as a single speed. All of the derailleurs and cables are gone. I stripped off the decals. (I was happy to see the ones that said "TI paint", "Designed in the USA", and "Made in Taiwan" go.) I'm still waiting to get some parts. When I'm all done, it will weigh like a pig, but should be quite stylie.
I have begun to call it "RegularBike."

Where is the Amish section of Sarasota.
It used to be on the outskirts, but due to growth, it now considered the "middle" of town. Located around Bahia Vista and Tuttle Avenue. Actually the majority is more Menonite (sp?) than Amish, but there is strong influence regardless. As far as the restaurants, there are about 4 now that serve incredible desserts and good stick to your ribs type cooking. Just thinking about their food is making me feel fat.

In spanish, the bicycle is referred to in the feminine: la bicicleta.

My road bike is called Stiffee because it is butt bustin uncomfortably stiff (but nice and fast Specialized Allez A1), and the VRX 200 is called Bobby. (Little bit of pedal bob there eh...)
and the junker is affectionaly known as... well, the junker. Then of course there is the bike which is lower than the junker. It is known as Pepsi. Yeah, thats right, for two years of my life which I will never get back, I rode a bike that given away on pepsi points. I however lacked the pepsi points so ended up buying one of the leftovers afterward...

The commuter is Tessie (as in Two Ton) and my road bike is Gladys (don't ask!)
And in Italian, it's feminine - la bicicletta.

I have one of those, and I call it the Ass Hatchet for that same reason.
Ah, I've been naming my vehicles for a long time.
Starting with my first bike;
20" hogepoge named BULL - it had drop bars turned up.
Schwinn Sting Ray named PURPLE PEOPLE EATER - it was purple.
26" 3 speed named RALPH - ?
1973 Centurion Le Mans - no name
1990 Scott mtb named MONTE -
1988 Miyata touring bike - CELESTE - a dreamy sky blue color.
My cars got named also;
1969 VW bus named MAGIC BUS- "The Who"
1969 Malibu named MALCOLM - my wife named him, from Shakespere I think.
1982 Subaru wagon named SCOOBY DOO - my room mate named him.
1984 Chevy Celibrity named MR. MOYER - company car
1987 Acura Integra named FIELDING - Woody allen in 'Bananas'
1986 Astro Van named ELROY - Jetsons
1980 El Camino named HECTOR - he was my hispanic work partner.
1992 Mazda 929 named MONROE - he was fat
2000 Astro Van named VINCENT - as in Vincent VAN Gogh.
My wife even named our house THIN MINT - it is light green with a black roof and reminds her of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Now to name our kids. Any ideas?

When ever someone in my ride group's bike is not working they use my older Fuji Nevada, this is called "brakin' out the fooge" (not sure how to spell fuji when you drop off the i, this is the closest I could come). Most of my friends and I call our bikes by the first syllable of the model name.

I haven't named any of my current 4 bikes. However, I was thinking of the name "the" as in the expression, "I am going to ride the bike.
It reminds me of the story of the pastor who wanted to take a day off each week, but he often got a phone call from a parishoner checking up on the pastor on his day off. So he used to go for a horseback ride on his day off. He instructed his wife, that when someone called, she was to say, "The pastor is out on Ministry." -- "Ministry" was the name of his horse.:p

Thanks, I liked that one.
I ride a blue and white Cannondale, so I tell the wife that I'm going out for a spin on "Big Blue".

My fixie is 'mushi-atsui', in honor of her Japanese heritage.
My favorite mtb is 'jolly jumper', from the old lucky luke cartoon where he would yell "go jolly jumper!" whenever he needed his horse for a fast getaway. I do the same thing on particularly painful climbs. He usually responds just over the crest.

My Trek has been Betty ever since an ex-girlfriend became jealous when she saw that I had my bike on my bed......and even more jealous when I told her that I sleep with my bike in my bed.
So when she started yelling, I told her that "Betty" was taking a nap after a tough ride. It was the first name that popped in my head.......
