Stopped by the thrift store this morning. They have everything half on on Memorial Day so I thought I check out their bike selection.

I had seen this bike last week when I passed by, but thought it would be long gone by now. It is a Skykomish Marble Point with Shimano Atlus C10 shifters, brakes, and derailers. Chrom-oly frame. Tires are Specailized brand and it has a nice big butt seat. Front wheel has a quick release, but the rear does not.

Some of the cables (probably all of them) need to be replaced, as well as the rear derailer which is damaged. Not sure if the front wheel is bent or if it is just not lined up right, but it rubs the brake in one spot. Hope I can salvage one or both wheels as they appear to be of better quality than what I have in spares at the moment.

Will make a fun project and when finished I will have a better bike than the beast I am commuting with now. At the very least I should be able to fix it up and get more than the 10 bucks I paid for it. :)

FUN FUN FUN! Looks like you'll need a new wheelset for that thing. Judging by that second picture, the spoke look pretty tweaked. That is a *perfect* candidate for a single speed or fixed gear ride. Great find!!!

Yeah, 2 of the spokes are broken. Judging by the freshness of the breaks, looks like someone at the thrift shop tried to ride it and the chain took out 2 spokes in the process. Never tried spoke replacement. Not sure if I will try that or scrounge for another rear wheel.

Good find. I would've bought that for $10 just on principle. Spokes are not that hard if the broken one is not on the freewheel side. Just remove the old one(s), slide in the new and true the wheel. If it's on the freewheel side then the cogs must come off first, which requires a special tool. However, a shop in my area removed one for me when I was respoking a wheel. Enjoy the project.

Been working on the front wheel a bit and got it to the point to where it will roll freely now. Still a bit of a wobble in one spot. Less than a quarter inch at most, but some more adjusting of the spokes should true it up more.

Got a tool to remove the rear cogs so I can repair the broken spokes on that wheel. It is pretty true and should not need much adjustment once I get the new spokes in place.

Have a new rear derailer on the way, should be here next week. With any luck and some free time, I will take this baby out for its first commute a week from Sunday.

I start the night shift at work then and am looking foward to a ride home where the trail is pretty empty. Been having a hard time dodging all the walkers and joggers recently.
