Hello everyone,
A quick note to say that i am really enjoying the forum and am looking forward to a long association with the group.
I have just started commuting again, after a ten year layoff, and i really regret not keeping up with it.
I am not riding the whole way to work yet, because it is a little to far for me-27km-so i drive the first 8km and then i ride the rest of the way. This i s going to continue twice a week for a two week period and then i will do the whole route and do it 3x/week.(hopefully)
:)

Hey, 19km is nothing to sneeze at! I admire your ability to jump right in at that distance. Have you been riding regularly before, just not commuting?
Regards,
Raymond

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, and in response to your question rainmanP i have been biking recreationally for a while now and combining that with rollerblading and hiking my cardio is really quite good.
My toughest adjustment has been to the saddle, boy can i feel it in the rear when i get to work!

Andre, when I first started regular commuting I had a problem with discomfort from the saddle, too. If it doesn't clear up in a week or two, see what's wrong. You might need a different saddle (see EXTENSIVE discussion on this on these forums!) but probably just need a slight adjustment. You might be surprised what a difference a millimeter or two here and there can make to comfort--and potentially to health.

I hope you continue to enjoy your commuting.

Jon,

Where would a seatknowledgechallenged person like my self find these discussions?

Try http://216.215.238.193/showthread.php?threadid=1972
and also try http://216.215.238.193/showthread.php?threadid=1990
for starters--and if you use the "search" facility (upper left of the page) you'll probably find lots more references to saddles in past threads and posts....

Naaw, to the left of my keyboard is my water bottle, to the right is a telephone (I'm at my desk!) ... and directly in front is my monitor... beyond that is my bike!
