Classic & Vintage - Schwinn badges - old & new -

No matter what the vintage, I think Schwinn used some great looking badges and lettering.

Yup - nice to look at and even better to ride.

I just picked myself up a new (to me, it's 20years young now since creation) Schwinn to add to my collection. They do have a classic look to them.

I love the badge on the front of my '83 Super Sport. It's the first of the Japan-made Schwinns, but it's still pretty :D

King, what's the story on the chrome Pmount with the "Disneyland" downtube graphics? Is it original to the bike? What year is the bike? Is it a decal?

The reason I ask is that I have these graphics on my sky blue '62 Pmount, but it looks like silk screening, not a decal. As far as I know, 1963 was the last year for that graphic style.

I've been intending to ask the same question. Not to mention that many here might like to see photos of the whole thing (hint, hint).

For the record, my '61 has silk-screen transfers. The transfers on this all-chrome appear to be decals - the originals probably flaked off after ten years.

P.S.: My favorite Schwinn badges are that of the Paramount, the Super Sport, and the mid-late '40s Henderson ballooners.

Hmmm, I'd enjoy seeing a photo of that '63! You're right - those are decals on the chrome Paramount. It's a '65 I picked up on ebay for a pretty good price, probably because it had no decals at all, and had lost a few original components through the years. I used the Disneyland letters just because I love the way they look, and I'm having fun riding it the way it is. Even the old Dura-Ace brake levers are kind of cool.

If I ever decide to actually restore it, I'll switch the decals to the correct style in red.

Waterford currently has the Disneyland decals in black or white only, although red would have been my first choice. They have the block decals in red, white, or black. I can't remember ever seeing an earlier chrome Paramount with the decals intact, but it would be interesting to know what was used.

Warning: I'm not the photographer that Scooper is, and the bike is a user that I built up from a frame & fork using components mostly from a '68 Paramount. I will replace the parts with the correct ones as I can find and afford them. I'm working on the correct Titan stem and Kint/Maes handlebar now.

No slight to you Bob. I just shot these last night as Kingofbeers expressed an interest in seeing the bike. I don't know html so I don't know how to get the pics to show up here on my post. Cuda2k sent me a p.m. offering to put them up for me. I have this Yahoo account for pics which I haven't used much, but I decided I should try that route first.

Are you sure you want these? They aren't very good(I'm not much of a photographer), and the bike is not really a good representation for it's year. As I mentioned, I bought the frame and fork and then built it up with parts that I had. Much of it is not period correct.

You do have a point there, but some pics are better than none at all and seeing the frame color and Disneyland graphics would be nice (with a disclaimer on the parts). We can always replace them as you upgrade.

I sure didn't mean to make you hassle around making the photos work, and now I find I'm unable to access "personal network storage" from the browser here at work, so I'll try later at home.

Thanks though, I think it's great to see Paramounts form the 60's, whether they're perfect or not. I'm sure it's because that's when I started [I]lusting[I] after Paramounts, although it was many years 'til I could afford one. In fact, the bike I "settled" for in '65 was a Schwinn Sierra 15sp, which I put many, many miles on.

Hopefully I can get one image attached here for you.

It was the bike that I lusted after as a 12 year old when my friends were getting Varsities. The search for one is what got me into all this vintage bike stuff some years ago. I now have 5 of them. Still looking for one in Flamboyant Lime though.

Thanks - that's a good looking Paramount. I haven't seen many in blue, and it looks like those beautiful decals have survived nicely.

Searching for a Sierra is also what gor me started a few years back, but I didn't find one, so I started down the Paramount route. My Terra Cotta Sierra was stolen while I was in Vietnam, and I'm still upset about it.

I promise I'll snap a shot of my 'Schwinn Chicago' badge on the 86 Passage tonight. A few years newer than many of the Paramounts and others in thread, but still of an age where a Schwinn was a Schwinn. I really need to look close tonight at the rubber on the schwinn, I have an odd feeling that it's original.

Schwinn 'Chicago' badge. Based on the serial number I believe this one was made in the Greenville Mississippi plant.
