I am relatively new to cycling - been doing so for around about 12 months now. When I am doing a road cycle I get this ache on either side of my quad muscle (just about the knee). When I purchased my road bike the shop set it up for me so I don't think its a problem there. Could it be an issue with my style?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Cheers

Are you driving you feet up and down like pistons in a car. (look down and make sure you quads are over your knees in line with ankles.

Could this also be a strenght issue. Like all sports cycling works your legs in a unique way you may find all 4 of your quad muscles are strong enough and you need to isolate the problem area as much as possible and make it stronger :)

Is it muscular soreness or ligament soreness? I'd recommend stretching very well before and after your ride. Training in a gym once in a while helps to build strength as well.

However, if it's ligament soreness, the problem might be a bit more serious than just lack of form or strength.
