General Cycling Discussion - How much weight have you gained this winter?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It's mid-winter here in the northern hemishpere. The 5 feet of snow in my backyard has really curtailed my riding, as have the large snowbanks burying the road shoulders.
My riding has been confined to sessions on the indoor trainer and weight training.
However, I've limited my winter weight gain to about 6 lbs. Hopefully, that will be it.
How are you doing?
You would have to bring this up. :crash:
Just don't tell anyone what my response was. ;)

As of this morning.. i've lost about 5 lbs... of course I live in SoCal, so I can still get out at least on the weekends... Been on the trainer a few tiems a week for about 45 minutes each time, so that has helped.. trying to get to 165lbs. byt March 1st. I'm at 170 lbs. now.. should be no problem

I have lost weight this winter lost about 5lbs just over past three weeks but have been really busy and haven't been eating as I should plus other disastrous events have been happening which doesn't really help the situation :(
I just don't maintain as well during winter when I'm on
the trainer. This past 2 weeks has been especially difficult
as I keep becoming motivationally challenged. Figure its
time to lay off for a few days. What complicates things
is that for the past couple of days I've been eating every
thing in sight.
All in all about 4 pounds.

I've lost 5 lbs. I would have been able to do more if I didn't stop riding in december.

I have gained 10 lbs since breaking my wrist in August. 5 months later I still have major wrist pain and don't anticipate getting back on the bike for at least another 2 months. ARGH!
Physical goals for 2003:
ONE marathon
ONE MS150
ONE sprint triathlon
ONE fully functional left wrist
ONE forty five pounds!!! (I'm currently 158)

Right around 10, winter is lazy time for me:D
I've put on 1-2 lbs. since the end of summer. My goal for the coming year is to lose between 5 - 10 lbs. Currently sitting at 170 lbs.

I have actualy lost 2 pounds in the last two months. I dont eat as much, as I am not riding as much.
SO far, I've only gained about 2-3 lbs. Surprising because my season ended a bit early due to accident, and I have an underactive thyroid which can slow down the metabolism. I was sure I'd blimp out by now. But I've been going to the gym and started using the trainer, and I actually seem to have slimmed my abs down a bit. I should mention that because of the metabolism thing, I'd actually GAINED about 15 lbs over the past two years and managed to get rid of most of it over the cycling season, so the goal is to keep off as much as possible. But I plan to do spinning classes and those are great for sweating off the winter lard!

I have gained 5-10 lbs but that is normal since my wife's cooking and baking are exceptional. The weight gains and losses have been the same for the past 20years. I'm 5'6" and I weigh 180 lbs on a stocky frame.

I've lost eight pounds and am aiming for a loss of many more. I am planning to ride several randonneur brevet rides this spring and summer, so I need to have as much advantage as I can.:D

For a guy my size (6 ft, 200 lbs average), I can see 10 lb fluctuations in a matter of days depending on how many carbs I eat, how much I ride, hydration etc.
I do know that I'm averaging 160 miles a week lately, whereas I was only doing a little over 100 a week in October. Since I'm not losing weight, I know that the increased calories from the Thanksgiving to Christmas period have made a difference. I use a body fat scale and the trendline is staying steady.
Hopefully, as spring gets closer ( as it soon will in NC) I'll go back to losing. I need 20 more lbs by April 3 to complete a weight loss century -- 100lbs in a year!
