I know this may sound lame to some of you...but I could hardly contain my excitement.
6 bike commuters today!!!!!
Most days, I see zero. About once a week, tops, I'll see one other, and it's usually one of two regulars that I pass opposite direction on one stretch of road. And that's been the story of my lonely ride for over a year now. Just me, the cars, and the idiots in their giant redneck trucks with their stupid redneck stickers who are trying to make a point by LOUDLY gunning their stupidly oversized engine to pass me at each stoplight as they get frustrated that each light puts me ahead of them, again. (Sorry...particularly bad truck day last week.)
Today, I saw 6 commuters, 4 of which were properly outfitted with racks and bags. I couldn't help but be happy about it. And maybe it's a bit of egocentrism and hubris, but a little part of me had the wistful notion that maybe I'd biked by them enough times, with all the requisite gear, that a few thought: "I see that dude doing this all the time. Maybe I can too!"
No, I didn't stop them to ask...because then I'd be "that guy"...
