Well you knew this was coming. According to Sperling’s BestPlaces Atlanta is the most expensive city in the nation for commuters. According to Sperling’s a family with two commuters will spend $5,772 per year. Not surprisingly 8 out of the 10 most expensive cities for commuters are in the south.

What is it about southern cities that makes it so expensive?

sprawl... no public transportation... no bike lanes...

I wonder about that aside too. I do know that a couple of Southern cities -- Atlanta and Houston -- are shining examples of suburban sprawl.
That's why I live 2.5 miles from work. I got tired of living like that. Now I can drive and not use enough gas to measure (almost) or walk or ride the bike. No traffic, less cost, and a lot less headaches.

Thanks the lord I didn't take that job in Atlanta. I knew that getting around would be hard.
