Introductions - Intro from Orange County, California

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello all. I'm a 33 y.o. newbie to riding. My goal in riding focuses on weight loss for the time being. My LBS fitted me to a MTB to handle my weight. Thought I'd be doing some light trail riding initially, but a family friend advised me to lose weight on the road before subjecting myself to the stress of the trail. Been lurking for a while; This is a really interesting community!
Welcome to BF.
I agree with the idea of road riding initially. I lost 55 pounds, all from road riding. Potholes and crappy roads are hard enough on the human body. If you're overweight, mountain biking will probably not be very "comfortable".
Good luck.
Welcome to the club! :)
You can always mix it up a bit, but stay off the big hills until you are comfortable being on the bike for more than a couple hours.
