I'm 53 years old and have just learned to ride a bike two years ago. Try as I might I still feel nervous on a bike. I'm fine when the cycle path is absolutely clear, but add other bikers, walkers, dogs and children and I'm a wreck. My husband keeps telling me I will get less nervous the more I bike, but my nerves make biking a painful experience so I tend to give up after a few attempts in the spring. I've said I think an adult trike might be a better choice for me, he says I wouldn't use the trike because I'd be embarrassed to be seen riding one. I don't think I would, but I'd love to hear the opinion of others. Thanks Gabriella

Welcome to BF.

You'll probably overcome your nervousness if you'll ride faster. I'm guessing that your top speed is less than 10 mph.
I too get a little worried when riding slow.

Go into an big empty parking lot and practice doing emergency turns (countersteering) and stops. Try seeing how slow you can go without putting you feet down. Practice riding in a straight line while looking behind you (tilt your head forward as if kissing the tip of your shoulder). This will show you the limits of your control and may make cycling with other people around less frightening. Good luck.
