I've got a 16.5" FS bike that seems to fit me fine for what I use it for at a height of 5'6". I was noticing though, it seems as though people tend to get bigger bikes for the road. Why would this be? I'm seeing a lot of people around my height riding 19" when it comes to roadies. Is there something I'm missing out on here? Would it be the same for a hybrid commuter?
The reason I ask is because I might be checking out an old rockhopper today for real cheap. It sounds like it's gonna probably be a 19" frame. I have an old 16.5" hard rock I was gonna turn into a hybrid commuter, but I was wondering if I should pick up this rockhopper instead and build it. The hardrock feels a bit small too, even though it's the same size as my trail bike. Maybe the bars are just too low. He thinks it's about 15 years old, but sounds like it should be in good shape. I already have a set of XT V-brakes on the way that I was gonna put on the hardrock, but I could just as easily put them on the rockhopper. I'm also not really liking the color of the hardrock, and think the rockhopper would be a bit more favorable. Anything against a rockhopper this old? Would 19" be a little small?
