This isn't even going to happen until later today, tomorrow or next week or month. The driver however is obviously wreckless, inattentive, stupid and a killer. Let's jail him today before the cyclist gets killed. Now, anyone know who the cager is, where this crime will take place and why the driver is clearly at fault?:D

This isn't trolling at all.

....and why the driver is clearly at fault? :D

Driver will state "I didn't see the cyclist" in spite of the fact the cyclist had right of way and was right in front of the motorist. Clearly indicates that the motorist "failed to look."

You're not seeing the big picture. Just jail ALL motorists now and destroy all cars.

We can stop this before it happens.

We start a massive artificial reef program off all three coasts and some large bodies of freshwater. Round up all motor vehicles not used for commercial purposes.:D

Spot-on, Gene. Unless the cyclist is unlit, riding on the wrong side of the road, and wearing navy blue at night (which does, of course, happen regularly), "I didn't see him/her" is a confession, not an excuse.

That does it! I'm firing up my time machine to go find out what happens. If I'm not back five minutes ago ...uh... http://forums.anandtech.com/i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif ...keep waiting.

It's been my experience that about 20% (1 in 5) of the general public have no business controlling a 2 ton vehicle capable of doing 120mph.

They just suck at it... whether it be attributed to their inattentiveness, their aggressiveness, or their cluelessness.

You've finally said something that I can agree with 100%! Not that you care about whether I agree with you or not, but still...

Now, that begs to question, if 1 out of 5 are idiots, why do so many of the posters in this particular forum insist on calling all drivers a derogatory name?

If you posted a couple days earlier maybe we could have caught this one.. http://www.katu.com/stories/86356.html

Looks like current value of a cyclist is about $121 ($242/2).

Motor vehicles rule in Washington County, it would be nice to see real charges filed against the driver, but the grand jury will probably consist solely of motorists, so it's a long shot....

And what would those "real" charges be?

However, that does not mean she will not face charges. It is a traffic violation to drive on the shoulder, but it has to be proved that the driver was doing something negligent in order to press criminal charges like manslaughter.

This is the kind of thing I find rediculous.

Of course she was negligent, she committed manslaughter. Unless she meant to kill them.

The same people 20% should also think twice about breeding

What would the charges be if she hit a motorist at the side of the road?

What if she hit some property at the side of the road?

Why is it that there is no charge for killing a cyclist, but there may be a charge against the driver for driving on the shoulder?

$121 for driving on the shoulder... heck, I would at least charge her $1000 for littering.

This is outragous. This is exactly where a law similar to those of Germany should kick in...

Of course the authorities will say the driver is terribly despondent and will remember this forever... bla bla bla. The cyclists are going to be dead forever too. And if there is no family, there will be no civil trial.

I wonder. Would the same $242 fine apply if she simply drifted into a cop writing a ticket? Tough break for the cop huh? Failure to maintain the lane. What crap!

If the motorist is wreckless I supppose it would mean he has never had a wreck. If, on the other hand, he is reckless he would be utterly careless or imprudent.
